I started using brave 2-3 years ago because of its built-in ad blocker. Now im kinda diving into more private internet activity using brave.
I dont have any technical knowledge regarding this. I just watched a yt video to setup my privacy settings of this browser and also add ublock origin extension.
My questions are:
For searching and watching nsfw stuff, is private tab enough for privacy and security?
I plan to download nsfw stuff from a site (which i have an account). Is it also safe to use private windows for this?
For #2 its normally a torrent file and i download it using qbittorrent, and i used opera gx as the browser. But i uninstalled gx, and now trying to use brave private tab for this.
Keep in mind that the only differences between a normal and private window/tab are:
Private sessions start without cookies.
Extensions are disabled.
Browsing history for that session is cleared when you close the last private window and exit Brave.
In other words, using a private window does not block your IP address or hide your identity from websites. It’s mainly designed to prevent others who use your device from seeing your browsing history.
Adblocking and Privacy Tools
Tools like Shields and uBlock Origin help block ads, third-party cookies, and trackers, but they generally have no effect on torrent activity. Torrents come with a higher risk of malware or viruses as well, so always should be used with caution.
Privacy Concerns and VPNs
If you’re concerned about privacy and want to prevent your ISP or others from tracking your activity, a VPN is necessary. Make sure to check for any potential leaks, as extensions, third-party programs, or even Java can reveal your information despite using a VPN.
Be wary of free or cheap VPNs—many of these make money by collecting your data or may be unreliable proxies that don’t provide real security.
Advanced Privacy Measures
For better protection, consider setting up a VPN on your router instead of on your device. This helps protect all connected devices.
If extreme privacy is required, consider running a VPN on both the router and individual devices, but note this will likely slow down your internet speed considerably and so generally isn’t recommended except in limited circumstances.
Note: If you’re not familiar with “VPN leaks,” you may want to read more about it. Good starting points are:
Just curious not being judgemental… Who cares? Just watch porn like a normal person. I love having a 10 year old porn hub account. They know my kinks so well and it doesn’t recommend me half as much incest shit as when I use a new browser or am not signed in.
You can use free Cloudflare Warp using DNS-OVER-WARP (own Cloudflare Tunnel) using local proxy. ISP can see your traffic when using DNS-over-HTTPS or DNS-OVER-TLS, but they can’t see when using DNS-over-Warp & only they can see is you connected Cloudflare server. Plus, Warp hide your WAN IP & replace it with Cloudflare WAN IP.
But it also has a negative impact using Warp, especially the games store (Epic Games, Steam & etc), but you can temporarily switch to DNS-over-HTTPS via Cloudflare Warp setting before access games store.
I read somewhere before by using incognito mode, the websites you have visited still can be found because of dns, unfortunately I dont remember what was the command to see it on linux or mac
DNS queries are plaintext by default I think. Incognito still queries DNS records, just without remembering browser-specific data, but you still need to know what server to go to.
Research DNS over HTTPS/TLS to conceal your activity from your ISP. You can configure this on your router to conceal DNS traffic and prevent them from seeing what websites and domains you reach out to. Quad9, Cloudflare, NextDNS, and Adguard are solid. I also recommend using a browser that supports Encrypted Client Hello (which Brave happens to support).
For torrenting, you’ll need a VPN that supports P2P traffic. Mullvad is highly regarded, but I use ProtonVPN since I already use protonmail, etc.
