VPN and Download station

Hello everyone, I have been running a plex server for a long while now and decided it was time for an upgrade. I have been running it on an old windows 10 box in my basement. I just picked up a synology918+ and am doing some research on setting it all up. One roadblock I have seem to run into is VPN issues.

Currently on my windows box I run open internet on the machine, while all traffic that my bittorent client uses goes through a VPN. So my downloads are hidden but users are able to connect to my plex without going through the VPN.

Is there a way currently that I can emulate this setup? Everything I seem to find on the synology / download station is a all or nothing approach on using a VPN. This seems strange as most BT clients have has this ability for years.

Thank you all in advance for any advice you could provide. Cheers!

Create a DSM VM in virtual machine manager and setup download station (writing back to a mounted host folder) and VPN on it. All the virtual DSM traffic will go through the VPN, while your host stays on the open internet.

Follow this (very short) instruction! Works like a charm!

No extra installations, no SSH/shell - just simplicity!

This is the most brilliant ans simple answer I have heard. Thank you so much. All the other options are so complicated. Not sure why I didn’t think of this. My hero.

Dont have enough ram for this ):

How much would that require?
