I switched to Omada after Google bricked my old Google Wifi and wanted to replace it with their crappy Nest version (without the LAN port for extending the network).
I choose Omada because it is fairly easy to set up and very reliable, and it has been fantastic. Almost no issues over the last 10 months!
I have run into a work issue I am hoping to resolve though. I primarily work from home (even before COVID). During COVID my work switched to a love of cloud based services, and for my particular job we are now using Azure. Apparently they set it up so I can only access it from my home (via IP). I am traveling for work and I am unable to access Azure and do my job.
I am hoping I can set up a VPN that I can connect to from my hotel, that will basically be tunnel to my home’s IP and will allow me to connect to Azure.
I am somewhat familiar with generic VPN services I use when trying to connect to Netflix, Hulu or other services to watch something specific that may be location blocked. I do not know if what I want is a certain type of VPN and have no clue how to set it up.
I am hoping that someone can provide a little guidance. I have a presentation Tues morn that I need to prepare for and I was expecting to be able to work all weekend and haven’t
Thanks!!
If work set up the IP restriction, and work is also requiring you to travel, I think it’s up to work to figure out how to allow you to access the required resources to do your job from the location they are requiring you to be. Reach out to your IT department for assistance.

omada vpn should be fairly easy to setup, but you need a vpn router. just get a cheap er605 will do.
Of course I’d make sure you aren’t violating some company policy by doing this.
Setting up a VPN for this with my R605 was easy. L2TP encrypted and I can access internet and my local network from my home IP while away.
Tailscale back to your home network.
I totally agree, but we are a small company so our IT is handled by another company and aren’t exactly quick for things like this. Personally, I think they don’t know what they are doing half the time and have to look it up and figure it out before they respond. I figure if I’m lucky I’ll hear from them by Friday, which of course does me no good right now.
I have the ER605 and I have it set up so I can access it from here.
My issue was not for work rather segregating tasks that needed vpn and those that didn’t. My solution was to setup a virtual machine and run the VPN only there. I can see you doing something similar for your azure environment to separate work from non work in the virtual machine with vpn to it.
Thanks, I will check this out, it might be the bandaid I need to let me go to sleep tonight!
Did it work for you? I assume you used the home machine as the Exit Node.
