Privacy my isp will literally send you a warning for downloading a .exe file
I use a vpn for entertainment purposes mostly, specifically gaming. I don’t want some kid with a laptop to dos attack my router. Secondly i want to watch movies and series when they are included in a subscription but not in my country. Also i want less relevant ads, so I switch servers from time to time to completely throw off social media ads.
I use proton vpn because it’s included in my mail+password manager+calender needs.
I had Express VPN until it started getting wonky for me in Jan, cancelled it (truly cancelled it using tips from the sub), then found out they had reactivated it this month, cancelled it again via a customer service rep, and had them delete my card and refund me the month, which they did.
Heard about Proton VPN here, signed up, and it has been smooth sailing ever since-such a vastly better service I can’t believe anyone uses anything else. Why do I use it? I was having internet issues one time and the guy from my ISP was talking about some of the sites I visit-nothing bad or embarrassing, but I got the feeling that such a pastime for those workers was commonplace, and I do value privacy quite a bit.
First, why I use a VPN…
I’m a moderator on a PC forum, and my IP address would often be flagged by Spamhaus, meaning I couldn’t post. Often I would have to restart my modem to obtain a new IP address, but the new one was sometimes flagged as well. When I run into this issue, using a VPN very often gives me an IP address that isn’t flagged, allowing me to do the work I need to.
Second, why I use ProtonVPN…
I had been using the VPN that’s included with my paid antivirus program, but it has a 200MB daily limit. Too often I would forget to disconnect the VPN after finishing my post(s), and a short time later I would run out of data. This meant that, if I needed to post again within the next 24 hours, my only hope was restarting my modem to get a new IP address, but again, the new address was sometimes flagged as well. With ProtonVPN being unlimited, forgetting to disconnect it isn’t a problem. My needs are basic, only being a temporary, unflagged IP address, so the free ProtonVPN is perfect.
Piracy I mean privacy
Virtual Private Network
Most VPN companies are owned or based out of China so that’s why I use proton
It sucks now. It used to be free with loads of servers but now i have to connect to random shii. I used it for gaming since for some damn reason games just tend to choose a server that puts me on RED PING (or 400-600ms) no matter the game and no i’m being for real i’m not kidding.
what sucks now is that everything useful is premium and i just have to settle for 400+ms on PUBGMobile, Wild Rift and etc. *i wanted to play pc games but server avail for my country is ass.
No hate. Just… sucks. if you’re f2p.
Ngl it’s probably hella useful to pay for it. just gotta find the best servers.
Proton VPN is absolutely incredible. I use their email as well, calendar, and drive apps. The only other good ones are express and Nord vpn honestly, but I prefer all the services proton offers, especially since I travel a lot and use a portable router.
I’m a firm supporter of privacy. Nowadays it’s not safe what will happen and day by day Western nations are becoming somewhat authoritarian in nature.
Check out using TOR network over VPN. Use tails Linux. This is the way.
I’m ignorant to how vpns work but is your browsing kept completely private or can people or entities still see it in some ways
This might sound silly, but does Proton VPN have live customer service, and
MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY: Would it be easy to put this in my wife’s phone as well as our main computer?
What I mean is, that I need to make the experience of using a VPN “seamless” for her as she is less computer savvy. So it needs to be something that will just “be there all the time” running in the background as much as possible.
I’ve already used a VPN in the past, so I have some experience using one, but she doesn’t.
I use it block censorship, privacy, hiding my trail on the internet, IRC, playing video games to lower my ping, test my router outside the network performing pen testing tests. All sorts of fun!
I live in Canada. My internet provider is Bell and I use thunderbird as my email client. When I have been Mexico, India and South Africa Thunderbird does not work Webmail is very slow. I decided to try VPN Installing 3 VPN 1) Mozilla 2)Nord 3)Surfshack does not work. I cannot download or send email as there are incompatibilities with Bell pop and SMTP servers…
In desperation, I tried Proton. VIOLA It works perfectly. Good interface. User-friendly. My email problem when going on holiday is solved.
To avoid detection while doing illegal activities, and I use NordVPN.
Networks that try and do HTTPS AitM because Proton VPN seems to be able to get right through somehow.
ProtonVPN for general use but if I want a direct secure connection to my house or a client I will configure OpenVPN server.
After researching, I decided with Proton due to privacy. This after I knew a person who got in trouble with the law and they had all of his internet activities from what websites he visited and Ip addresses and more. Even sites he visited unintended(some kind of virus that redirected searches to porn sites and popups) where bought up.
I believe that it is no one business where I go and I feel safer having my traffic encrypted and private. I can particiapte in forums better. Protonvpn seems to be well researched and offer other features.
I use a VPN to either bypass region lock or website blocks on public/work/school wifi. I use Proton because it’s free (and trusted).
