Would you renew?

I spent the last ~year thinking that I would not renew SurfShark. If you’ve been using it for a year or more you probably know why.

It has gotten better. But is it good enough? What can we expect in the future?

I’ve just dipped my toes into VPN research, so far it looks like SS is considered one of the best.

Can I get a better deal via an introductory offer with a new VPN?

Oh, and how private is it really? Where is the company located?

Is there any connection to Israel?

If you want an App specifically for the AppleTV, you should consider the other big names in VPN.

Surfshark is far from the best VPN services but it’s indeed one of the cheapest.

In truth, it works for what I need. I’d hate to pay full price for it though. That tactic for disabling auto-renew was very off-putting. I’ve probably 6 months left of a 2 year deal, we’ll see the lay if the land then…

Hi, thanks for sharing your concerns. To answer your question about what to expect - further improving product quality and user experience is among our top priorities in 2024.

Surfshark is secure and private as we don’t keep logs of your online activity. That means Surfshark VPN doesn’t track your online whereabouts or actions in any way. The VPN server only keeps enough data to maintain your VPN connection, and nothing is kept after you’re done - you can read more about this here:

https://surfshark.com/features/no-logs

Surfshark is based in the Netherlands. As for the 14 Eyes Alliance mentioned in the comments, the laws of the Netherlands do not establish any obligation to log or retain user data and we have no intention to do this. Five Eyes, Nine Eyes, and Fourteen Eyes agreements stand for countries’ intelligence authorities, but they have no power over the existent laws of the Netherlands, and the country has no laws that require logging or retaining user data.

Lastly, Israel is one of our server country locations available for our users (there are 100+ country locations in total).

No it’s garbage, blocking email via IMAP. And I cannot connect to my CCTV when on SurfShark. Never had these problems with other providers, even associated NordVPN.

I got 2 years free, but it’s mostly useless, so I would not renew unless it was totally free again next time

Canceled my auto renew. Their lack of urgency in getting an AppleTV app has killed it for me.

8/10 times it works well but I will be cancelling Surfshark, purely because of their lack of an Apple TV app. It is almost ridiculous that they do not have this after this much time. Clearly it isn’t a priority for them, so they will be losing this customer.

It was worth it to me to allow subscription to lapse, since my CC expired. I signed back up through Apple AppStore. I’m paying just a tiny bit more, but know that I’ll be able to cancel whenever, if ever, I desire.

Absolutely not. Any live streaming provider of merit has already cataloged all of their static IP’s and blocked them. They never rotate the IP’s. That was my primary use case. If you just want anonymized web traffic, there are plenty of other options.

Damn it. Im locked in for another 500 plus days

Idk how long you been using it but it has not changed that much for the pass few years (at least anything I use in it), but I feel like it had gotten worst, who knows.
SS does not consider one of the best vpn, yes they are one of the cheapest but far from the best. Idk where you got your information from, probally from sponsors.
Idk if you can get a cheaper half trustworthy vpn anywhere else apart from surfshark.
What you mean private? It is located in Netherlands, part of the 14 eyes, but I think Netherlands have some laws that they won’t take data from vpn company’s or somthing idk.
What you mean connection to Isreal?

Lol what’s the last question got to do with anything

Fits my needs for streaming primarily . Unlimited devices is a plus as well . My 24 month sub expires soon and I’m planning to renew for same price

Just renew it. Surfshark is free. There are Cashback options that go up to 100%

Yes, I’m backordered for six years lol

Absolutely not. None of their apps work for me (iOS, iPad and macOS). To use it I need to download the certificates and load them through wireward or openvpn directly and even so their connection fails most of the time. And on top of that it’s impossible to communicate with a human.

Well, I was in the same dilemma when my renewal was due. Frankly, I couldn’t find a better deal and although the speeds on the location I choose aren’t really great, I haven’t found a better service. Their virtual servers aren’t very reliable or fast. Sometimes I can hardly stream at 720p. Haven’t found a better alternative yet. But surely, the deal saves you a lot of money. When I had an issue, their customer service was proactive, responsive and involved. The issue still isn’t solved but it’s good to know they employ humans. That’s why I stick to them.

Correct the current biggest flaw. Otherwise the service works fine for me.

Hi, both of the use cases you’re using Surfshark for are rather tricky. We have some preventative measures so people can’t use our service for email spamming purposes/scams and CCTV access (remote access) might require port-forwarding, which we don’t support yet.

However, we’d be happy to take another look at your specific situation and I’d suggest sending us an email to [email protected].
