YouTube TV Help

Our Airbnb has a smart tv with YouTubeTV app. When I log in with my account it says not supported in this country. I know there is something about a VPN I can do to make it work??

Can someone explain in very precise detail how I can get it to work so we can get the NFL games here??

Thank you!!

See if YouTube TV still works on your smartphone. If it does, it’d be easier to cast from your phone to your smart TV. Most VPNs don’t work for YouTube TV, they got smarter, but can try!

I did watch some YouTube TV while on the island, but I used tailscale instead of a VPN – I agree with the other commenter that YouTube probably won’t work with a VPN. Explaining step by step how to set up tailscale is too much for this post but you can find explainers on the web. Basically, you set up a link between your phone or travel laptop and a computer or server in your home, so that when you run tailscale your computer or phone, located in SXM, acts like it’s running in your home.

Don’t know the Smart TV that’s in your AirBnb but most of them allow streaming from your laptop or phone running Tailscale.

I don’t have YouTube TV but I have SurfShark VPN (Paid service) and I was able to use my firestick to stream local sports and stuff while in SXM (French side).

You’d have to have a router/device that sat between the internet and the TV to establish that VPN connection. There are no VPN apps for TV’s to make that work.

Using an external device like an AppleTV, Chromecast w/ GoogleTV or FireStick and then using a VPN solution like Nord VPN or Trailscale to route the app traffic over the tunnels back to the US would work.

YouTubetv is hard to use with a vpn, they know people try to skirt around, so they are great at knowing the vpn IP addresses. Sometimes you’ll get lucky and find a vpn they haven’t blocked yet, but more times than not when I tried it around the globe, that’s the one streamer I never have luck with.
