Android auto barely working all of a sudden?

I got a 2023 Toyota RAV4 hybrid SE in late August and Android auto has been working fine until recently. Now it won’t connect wirelessly at all (gives me a "cannot connect due to error message), and when I connect with a USB, any slight movement with the cord will cause it to completely disconnect. My AA works fine wirelessly in my work vehicle (Chevy bolt EV) so I’m at a loss.

I’ve had similar issues, I’m sorry to report, but recently discovered that pushing and holding down the volume knob (in towards the front, the one to the left of the screen, not on the wheel) for about 10 seconds will restart the screen and trigger a reconnect, similar to turning the car off and back on.

I’ve also learned that pressing the “phone” button on the wheel (while the phone is disconnected) then “Connect Device” is the quickest way to get to the device page so you can try again to pair your device.

It’s all still far more fiddly than it should be, but hope these tricks make it at least a little less frustrating

Update android auto on play store

Are you using a VPN?

I’ll try that for sure

It’s fully updated. It works perfectly fine in my work vehicle wirelessly

It’s just that some new Google phones have a built-in VPN and android auto won’t work.

It works fine in my work vehicle just not my rav which leads to more confusion for me
