Hi all. Due to absurd censorship laws on my country, certain sites (including Reddit) are blocked. For this reason I always keep a VPN, specifically Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 enabled on my phone.
My phone usually connects just fine to my car’s Android Auto. This morning however it suddenly just won’t connect if the VPN is still on. Having to keep turning on and off my VPN kinda defeats Android Auto’s convenience of automatically connecting.
I’m wondering if anyone else had this problem? What’s the solution? Or any suggestions? Thanks.
Edit: things I have tried include:
Removing my phone from AA and vice versa, and then pairing the devices back
Disabling and reenabling Android Auto from my phone
I don’t have any problem with a VPN or DNS settings with AA. It will even run fine when offline in an underground garage…I don’t think your issue is related to the VPN.
I think it does but to set it up I can’t just choose the app I want to exclude, it asks me for either an IP address or a domain. Does Android Auto even have those? I’m not sure how things work here
OP is mixing up using a DNS with using a proxy. Using cloud flares 1.1.1.1 is not equal tu using a proxy, it just calls a different Domain Name Server than the regular google DNS. The DNS has one job, and it’s nothing like a VPN- it tells your browser what IP address you are trying to reach when you type the human understandable www.something.com - the machine needs to is to be translated to an IP address like 172.123.4.5
