Any way to search in Norwegian without using a VPN?

How can I make use of a search engine and get mainly Norwegian results (just as if I was in Norway)?

I know that with the use of a VPN this would be possible, but it’s rather inconvenient…

Are there any search engines out there that can do this?

Use DuckDuckGo search engine and in result just select country as Norway

You type and search with the Norwegian language.

Restricting the results to Norwegian domains by adding “site:no” usually works alright on Google for me. It’s not 100% accurate of course but in most cases it does the job. Other than that - Google sucks as a tool to implement anything that you designed on your own. But it’s great if you want to exploit what it offers and does well. In other words: No, it doesn’t allow you to specify the language of the desired search results.

I can relate to this so much as a Norwegian abroad! I search for Norwegian topics and want to get good Norwegian results about the actual topic but just get shitty results about tourism or just Swedish results, even if I write in Norwegian because Google thinks I want what’s relevant for Sweden and what Swedish people google. It sucks

This shows you how to restrict your google search results to the Norwegian language (but I don’t think it is exactly the same as if you were in Norway)

You can change just change your Google regional results. Google will act like you were in Norway.

Look up an instance of Searx, a totally FOSS search engine, after you search for a term, you can set the results to norsk which could kinda be the same thing?

Kvasir.no

The absolute best search engine!

/s

Even if Burkina Faso, we can set up the .no (or any other extension) as the default google engine. You just need to google (hehehe) the few steps to do so.

I all verden, finst Kvasir fremdeles? Det har eg ikkje brukt sida 1996

Kvasir search ≈ Google search, as Kvasir uses Google indexing, with some local adaptions.

«Kvasirs søketjeneste baserer seg på en tilpasset indeksering fra Google. Søketreffene leveres av Googles søkemotor, men sorteringen og filtreringen er tilpasset av Kvasir for norske lesere. I tillegg skiller Kvasir seg fra Googles egen søketjeneste ved at de ikke samler inn informasjon om brukernes søkeatferd for å tilpasse søkeresultatet til den enkelte bruker.»

In English:
«Kvasir’s search service is based on customised indexing from Google. The search hits are delivered by Google’s search engine, but the sorting and filtering is customised by Kvasir for Norwegian readers. Kvasir also differs from Google’s own search service in that it does not collect information about users’ search behaviour in order to adapt the search result to the individual user.»

Skulle til og si at Kvasir ikke er så gammel men den ble faktisk lansert i 1995, noe som er temmelig gammelt på Internett med tanke på Google kom i 98.

Dear u/NordicBaldie:

Thank you for using your time to explain the rather obvious. The typical definition of the term «sarcasm» is to make a statement that is more or less the opposite of the wording, in a mocking way.

The word comes from the Greek σαρκασμός (sarkasmós) which is taken from σαρκάζειν (sarkázein) meaning «to tear flesh, bite the lip in rage, sneer».

In its entry on irony, Dictionary.com describes sarcasm thus: «In sarcasm, ridicule or mockery is used harshly, often crudely and contemptuously, for destructive purposes.»

But is Kvasir.no really the opposite of «the absolutte best search engine», when in fact they use the Google index with a few adjustments? Maybe not all are aware of that?

In any case, using Kvasir.no is actually a reasonable solution to what the original poster asked for, to get more Norwegian search results while using a search engine. A different way could be to use the country/language options at Google, Bing etc, but then OP would have to change the preferences back again if they wanted search results from a different country or language.
