Im from the UK. I cant remember exactly what i did last time, but something along the lines of using a VPN based in Argentina to sign up for Youtube Premium, giving a billing address in Argentina but using my UK (Virgin Money) credit card.
Been charging approx £1.60 every month for this service.
Not too clued up on this stuff now, Any ways around this? I mostly listen to Youtube on my iPhone.
By other reports of the same thing and by my own experience, it absolutely looks like YouTube got wise to this method. Or, if they knew of it all along, which is likely, they just decided to crack down on it.
Many people doing this had emails like a month or two ago, announcing that their premium would be cancelled if they don´t use an actual payment method from the country they pretend to live in.
I for one decided to ditch the shenanigans for now and just use modded apps. ReVanced for Android, Firefox with ublock and sponsorblock on PC and smarttube on my tv.
Time will tell if the “trick” will still work in the future or if there will be a new one.
Well you might have to wait till someone that knows what’s going on in your country responds but check the email headers and make sure it’s actually from YouTube.
Awful lot of scams going on these days…
With that said and what you wrote, it sounds like they’re finally catching up to matching payment sources to IP addresses and your VPN trick of signing up in a different country probably won’t work or is going to be more difficult to pull off than it was before. Even if you do get it to work now, I think the chance of your account just getting closed is going to be fairly high.
I would suggest canceling and then resubscribing but doing so without the use of a VPN.
Loads of folks have had these emails (I’ve had mine for about 3 years) , few people on a forum I was in mention that they’ve still had money taken after the date shown and can still get premium so fingers crossed. If not I’ll just use one of the modded apps
Get yourself a nice itune or play account in Turkey, top up your balance with a gift card and buy it through the app / play store. Slightly more expensive, but still a huge saving.
For some time, I’ve been purchasing cheap YouTube Premium through the App Store in Turkey. I started when it cost 75.99 TRY, and now it’s 104.99 TRY, which is still much cheaper than the 9.99 USD it costs in my country.
To do this, you need to have an App Store account in Turkey and buy gift cards from that country, as they are accepted as a payment method.
Can you get an annual plan when “moving” to Kazakhstan? Or is it still monthly? Just wondering if I can pre-pay an entire year just in case they want to cut it off before the renewal.
I got my email last month. I have gone the AppStore route. Create a turkey Apple ID. Top it up. Purchase premium via the Turkey id. Works out at £6 a month for family.
I got same email last month and surprisingly it got renewed with the same rate ie Turkey. I will wait for this month renewal whether it went thru or not
Edit: I read one of the comment here, to update the address. Yes, I did update the address to Turkey sometime ago. Perhaps this will make the payment weny thru eventho we receive the email.
