Oh, not for you then, definitely
Why wouldnât you have a secure lock screen in the first place? O.o
5.0 introduces trusted devices (like a smart watch) that allow you to have a secure lock screen without having to got through security while the device is nearby or youâre in a particular location (such as at home).
Iâm not willing to go on record which two I use, because of my use case. What do YOU want to use a VPN for? Are you looking to defeat geolocking? Are you looking for privacy on a public Wi-Fi? Are you looking to defeat a ban? Are you trying to defeat tracking? Something else?
What you want to do will influence my recommendation.
I have been unsuccessfully trying to add my Z3C (KitKat) as a trusted Bluetooth device on my Nexus 7 (2013, Lollipop) for months. My friend also couldnât get it to work with his Blackberry and Nexus 10 (Lollipop). Does both devices need to be on Lollipop?
Nothing to hide, I donât leave it laying on my desk or out in the open. I have Cerberus installed if anyone tries to take it. A security pattern is just extra steps to unlock. I am secure by having nothing to secure!
Honestly, I had to google what a VPN was when I saw this thread. Iâm not really looking, but just like reading recommendations for products (which is probably why I subscribe to /r/buyitforlife, etc).
My pebble works perfectly, set up took 30 seconds tops. Do you have trusted devices selected to on in security as well as paired the device over Bluetooth?
5.0 relieves you of that step.
Bluetooth is on and confirmed as paired in Bluetooth settings on both devices. On N7 in Smart Lock I have âXperia Z3 Compactâ under âTrusted devicesâ, however, when I tap that entry in Trusted devices it shows: âZperia Z3 Compact - Not connectedâ, so I have a conflict in the Bluetooth pairing status between what the settings show and in Smart Lock. What do you mean by âDo you have trusted devices selected to on in securityâ?
By using a smart watch or home WiFi? No smart watch but home WiFi might be worth it. However, I only use a VPN for torrents which I do at home usually. I just donât believe in the overly secure stuff, nothing to hide and I know who uses my phone. Good to know of these new options, thanks!
Have you tried re-pairing?
I just realized youâre trying to use a phone as a trusted devices for smart lock. That doesnât work, it has to be a smart watch, Bluetooth headset or other like accessory.
Thatâs surprising and disappointing, but thanks for giving me closure on the issue. I hope Iâm not the only fool that didnât know thatâŚ
7,200,000,000 people on earth. Iâd bet money youâre not the only person.
