Hey guys, the last VPN i was using for torrenting no longer works so I’m starting to look for a new one. I think that the major ones that are mentioned the most (nord, express, mullvad, proton VPN) are all pretty much obsolete at this point, at least for torrenting. I have a subscription with most and they didn’t work. Anybody have any recommendations for VPN’s for torrenting?
ISPs don’t want you torrenting any copyrighted material, but they are generally unable to see you torrenting copyrighted material if you are using a VPN. At least, they can’t prove it’s you, so it’s definitely a good idea to use one. Personally, I really like both surfshark and PureVPN.
Mullvad is the VPN that gets recommended on reddit the most, and not just for torrenting. For all kinds of activities - streaming, gaming, browsing, etc… It protects your privacy the best and lets you pay as you go, you don’t have to get tied up in any subscription so that’s the one I’d suggest you to go with.
Hmm. For torrenting it depends a lot since most of the major ones don’t work like you said (even though it wasn’t a problem in the past). I last used PureVPN for torrenting like 2.5 months ago and it worked. I’ll try it again tonight and report if it’s still working.
What protocol do you use. A cause can also be that your ISP is throttling the VPN connection. Just try out different protocols in the Eddie settings menu. Also try different ports. In the protocol settings.
Wireguard should be the fastest protocol in general.
With torrents your main concern is getting a copyright infringement notice.

Also ignore anyone who tells you to use Nord VPN, but you probably already knew that. Not sure why you threw mullvad’s name in there with the rest, it doesn’t belong in the same discussion (it’s superior to them). Another few good ones are surf shark and PureVPN. Good luck

everything works smoothly for many years, never had a problem. maybe something is wrong with configuration you have. take a look at this guide (old but gold)
I’m new to using a VPN while torrenting and it’s still a bit confusing to me. But I wanted to ask just to understand more: I have qBittorrent. Is it okay to just use a proxy (which I have already set-up in the settings and confirmed that is working using ipleak.net, etc) and leave NordVPN turned off?
A truly great ad-free and user-friendly free VPN can be found in the Opera browser. With just one click, you can switch your VPN location to the Americas, Asia, or Europe. Although it may cause a slight slowdown in connection speed, I’ve found it to be minimal. Overall, I used to believe that good free VPNs didn’t exist, but Opera has proved me wrong.
PureVPN has been consistently good and reliable for me. Cheap too
I have tried setting up a Proxy in Utorrent using PIA.
Downloads fine but will not seed…I use IPTorrents which I assume are Private torrents…does this mean a proxy will not work very well? Excuse my lack of knowledge I am still learning.
Any thoughts on these ones?

So recently canceled that and got express but haven’t used it enough to know if it’s good or bad yet
As far as torrenting VPN’s go… It’s pretty hard to say that one is definitively best because that title is constantly changing. At one point it was Mullvad but that stopped being true about 6 months ago. Bitorrent was also really good once upon a time . At this point, I’d have to say Windscribe is working best.
I like PIA and pure VPN for torrenting though there are many more that work (including Avast, surfshark, and proton VPN). But I do agree with the others that said this list is always changing.

in my experience these are the ones that get talked about the most when it comes to torrenting, in that order. Nord used to be at the top of the list for many consecutive years but that stopped years ago (they became awful for everything, not just torrents). Might as well just use a free vpn over nord lmao.
I’ve found that many of the vpns that work for netflix also work for torrenting.
yeah i ended up using surfshark a few weeks ago and stuck with it. I’m fairly happy with it.
yeah before making this thread i read like 6 or 7 different reddit threads about VPN’s. Mullvad was mentioned quite often which i understand. It’s a good VPN, I also like that you can pay as you go with it.
Any update? I also noticed that many of the VPN’s don’t work when trying to use them for torrenting. I already found a working VPN, but it would be helpful for others to know if pure is a good choice too.
What’s the danger with having a copyright infringement notice? I think i may have also received one a really long time ago but i just ignored it and i don’t think anything happened after that.
