Can i use ExpressVPN on my personal laptop to work from overseas

Hi everyone,

My company allows using personal computer to connect to the company system. The company is completely on Google cloud platform, and everything is on the cloud.

Can I use ExpressVPN and connect back to my home country whilst connecting to a local wifi connection from an overseas location? Will it be possible for them to find out. If so, how?

Yes.

Yes.
Your login IP will be your home country IP, most likely that server braodcasts itself as a VPN server nd they will know you are in a VPN. But they won’t know anything else. The sole purpose of the VPN is hide you

Depends on what company software you have on your personal machine.

If it is a personal computer you own then yes . A work computer the answer is no

but VPNs are not that perfect.
Check on residential proxies I think they are more stable. I can guide you on this.

So if OP started using a VPN a few weeks/months before the trip/move, they could theoretically say they did it as a general security/privacy measure… ?

VPNs are more secure. I would never have work data over ExpresssVPN, much less a residential proxy.

Sure. But really, who cares? This is a bigger tax issue than an IT issue.

OPs is on SaaS on GCP, so really, they should have their security game figured out where this is a valid scenario.

As long as the VPN used is genuine, it’s fine.
I would be much more worried about opening up my work laptop to a private uncontrolled (by me) VPN.

I am not an expert but the problem with VPN if it goes down it will show a jump of the location but proxy it stops alll activity.
Open to learn if I am wrong.

Oh, for sure. Plus other issues we’re not even considering.

VPN secures the connection by encryption, making it far less likely to expose confidential data.

Proxies are open networks.

I wouldn’t trust any random VPN either because the VPN is only as secure as they provider makes it to be.

okay
nice to learn this.
