I have been looking into getting a VPN for extra security, but I can’t figure out if I can just get like ExpressVPN and download it to the router, or how to know if the router is able to accept a VPN or how all this works. I am not the best with computer software and all that.
It can not buy your own router if you want that feature.
I use NordVPN on my devices, not my router.
Much easier and for each account you can have up to 6 devices.
Most ppl have vpns on their devices
I’ve been working from home with my work pc via vpn on Spectrum since 2020. No issues.
You need your own router
VPN runs on your PC unless you’re trying to VPN your entire household all at once.
Spectrum has a pretty good security suite. But if you were trying to be even more anonymous online just put the VPN on your device.
I don’t know for sure, but I doubt the Spectrum router would support VPN for the whole network. Its CPU would probably be too weak for it anyways. There are a LOT of higher end consumer routers that will allow you to tunnel all your traffic through a VPN. You’ll spend more but they’re have more features and be more powerful.
Keep in mind some services don’t like that and will block you.
Yes, it’s called Tailscale and it’s incredibly easy to use. No port forwarding, just install and create an account. I use it all of the time with Spectrum.
I think what your referring to is setting up a VPN from your home to, it sounds like to me. You can connect to, theoretically, any VPN on Spectrum.
I use Proton VPN with my Spectrum modem and router and it works just fine. However, my configuration is so complex, I probably couldn’t even explain it to myself.
If you use it through your router you won’t have to worry about connecting it to a device. You’ll also be able to watch most of your streaming platforms like Hulu and Netflix. There’s alot of advantages of running it through your router.
I want to use the VPN on my home network so all devices, even those that normally cant use a VPN like gaming consoles, are fully secure. Is this something that is able to be done?
What I want to do is use the VPN on literally every device, like gaming consoles, on my home network so I am fully secure
I believe so, my son lived with us last year and had two devices utilizing ExpressVPN (cell and playstation).
