Continuous Disconnections Using Zscaler VPN on Eero Max 7 WiFi - Need Help!

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a frustrating issue with my corporate laptop using the Zscaler VPN. When I’m connected to my Eero WiFi network, I experience constant disconnections, especially when I move around the house. I suspect this happens because the Eero mesh network switches access points (APs) as I move.

Here are some key points about the issue:

  1. Corporate Laptop with Zscaler VPN: My laptop is configured to use Zscaler VPN by my company.

  2. Eero WiFi: The issue occurs specifically when I’m connected to my Eero mesh network, which has four Max 7.

  3. Disconnections: The disconnections seem to happen when I move around the house, likely due to AP/mesh switching.

  4. Other Networks: I don’t experience these disconnections when I connect to a single-unit WiFi network of another brand or when using a mobile hotspot, both of which don’t use mesh networking.

  5. IT Team: I’ve worked with my IT team, but they have no clue about the issue. Also, none of my colleagues have reported this problem.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with Zscaler VPN and Eero WiFi? Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I’d appreciate any help or insights you can provide. Thanks in advance!

I have the same setup (zscaler and max7 )with my corp laptop but it usually stays in the same spot. I’ll test this and let you know if I have the same issue.

Sounds like you have troubleshot this fully already. That VPN is not able to survive a roam to a new radio/node.

How large is your home? It is possible to have too many nodes for your space which can cause devices to roam more than needed.

Most consumer mesh solutions don’t handle roaming well.

Assuming your network and eeros are connected and operating properly, the only way this would happen is if you are on the guest network. With the guest network, each eero performs its own NAT. Jumping between APs will break all existing flows.

If you aren’t on the guest network then you should contact eero. There is something wrong with your network.

Having the same problem, but not when moving around the house, when sat in same office room. Issue only began when I switched ISP and installed eero mesh.
I actually fixed it for around 4 months by setting up a guest network exclusively for my laptop. Now having issues again.
IT have tried everything, including replacing my laptop, no luck.

I have 3 stories home each floor is quite long, so 4 eero max 7 is reasonable I think

i’m having the same problem and i’m not even moving around the house. using eero pro 6E mesh. please let me know if anyone has figured this out.

So I tested this by ensuring I am connected to my corp zscaler vpn and was kept streaming a video on youtube and on a resource that requires VPN access.

I moved around my house and checked via the eero app to make sure I switched AP nodes(I have 4 Max 7’s).

My VPN did not disconnect nor did I lose connectivity(as far as I can see) as it passed from on AP to another.

BTW, this is on a Mac.

Thank you for the test!!! It might also be a zscaler policy difference. This is very helpful!

i think issue is more prevelant on PC not Mac? i have the exact same set up as person above with same issues
