I paid for Astrill for 2 years with VIP Addon and not even teams calls with 3 other people work reliably. I am getting so sick from this horrible VPN Astrill. What can I do? I have so important Teams Calls and before a call my pulse goes to 300 when not even the website of the teams meeting is loaded and I come too late in the call and need to hope during the whole call that i can visit the necessary websites while calling etc.
I use different VIP servers, openweb, stealthvpn. NOTHING OF THIS DAMN ASTRILL WORKS RELIABLY. I JUST WANT RELIABLY VISIT ALL WEBSITES AND HAVE VIDEO CALLS. NOTHING ELSE.
Well, for me it works fine. I mean now and then i check all the servers to find a few ones that work better.
The Great Firewall is a living beast and it works aggressively to block you. There is no one-click solution to bypass it, that is the harsh reality. As others have said, you need to be attentive and flexible to get past it - which it sounds like you are.
I’ve used Astrill for over ten years now here in China, and it remains my go-to VPN for its dependability. I’m not a shill for Astrill - rest assured if it dies on me I’ll be sharing my grief to anyone who will listen.
Don’t forget, your internet access is dependent on more than just your VPN: your neighbourhood, district and city great firewall policies and implementation may be more or less restrictive than other locations. Some years back, there was a Beijing district teeming with coffee shops with VPNed wifi due to the relaxed policies in the district… this continued until the higher-up city folk got wind of it and forced a crackdown.
Further, your service provider may be not so foreigner-friendly, exacerbating your access problems.
With respect to your particular issue: I use both Zoom and Microsoft Teams from multiple different locations here in China, and almost always I don’t need a VPN. I’m not sure what systems you are using to meet your colleagues online, but have you tried direct connection rather than a VPN?
BTW… Lots of postings here about disappointment with the VIP plan. I had the VIP add on for a year and found it useless for my purposes, so I didn’t renew the subscription and I don’t recommend it to anyone looking to subscribe.
Just had a 2hr meeting and it was mostly fine. At one point internet stopped working and I had to reset my router. I’m using the Asus applet.
I used Mullvad vpn for a month in China with no issues. I recommend
Are you using the VPN exclusively set up inside your router? Otherwise it’s really horrible too.
I just got mullvad and it seems a lot more stable than astrill has been for me the past few weeks. Just had a zoom call using it with only 1 slow down. But I feel your pain. Astrill user for 3 years. I still have it but now it’s just installed and not running.
You shouldn’t need a VPN for Teams. I’ve never needed it. My former company uses Teams and would never choose software that doesn’t work without a VPN.
I’m trying to install the applet. Can you tell me what is your router model and what is the firmware version? It could really help! Thanks!
i have it not installed in my router. i use astrill software on each device.
but what would you then when you need to access websites that require VPN during the call? Did you set that Teams app and website is not used in the VPN?
Asus AC86U. Running the latest firmware ( not sure which version coz I’m not in China now)
That’s why you are suffering. Get a good ASUS router, ASAP. Install the applet, this is a gaming changing move.
That’s a completely different issue. My point is Teams works without VPN in China. If you need access to blocked sites then you have to decide what’s more important - a smooth Teams call or the other things.
Yes! I’m thinking AC86U, too. Thank you SOOOOO much!
which router you suggest? is there one working that can support also 5ghz and working well for VR streaming? Cause that I would do also and I can buy an expensive one for 300 400 euro also if that helps.
WHy does the router applet improve something? it seemed to me it just give many more options like to tunnel sites for many devices or not etc.
Don’t bother with dedicated IP. It was also flagged as a VPN.
Also I read that the local version of 86U doesn’t work. Someone else will need to verify.
I know that the AC86U was the best budget option by 2019, but isn’t WI-FI 6 and now you should have better options. Go for some ASUS GT, it would cost you a lot, but don’t cheap out on RT-AC versions, I did this and regret, the GT versions have better processors. I’m sure they will be able to do VR streaming easily too.
Edit: you asked in another post of me, regarding the Merlin, yes, it’s the same way in 2024.
