Help! Can’t connect work computer (vpn server and client)

Im going to preface that I don’t have a tech or it background - just a person trying to figure out how to set up the routers to work remotely elsewhere…. So I will appreciate any suggestions or recommendations or instructions on what/how to fix this up before I leave next week!

I have 2 gl mt3000 - one as vpn server and the other as client (my designated travel router). Used Wireguard server and also set up port forwarding on my ISL (rogers if anyones from Canada) to my vpn server. Everything works in terms of my home IP address showing when I connected my devices to the travel router. DDNS is set up on both routers (or should it be one?).

BUT when I test the travel router on my
Work laptop, it automatically kicks me out of teams and outlook, I can’t sign into my work VPN (using Cisco anyconnect). I checked the IP address and it reflects my home ip address.

I tried openserver with Nordvpn packets. and it behaved exactly as I expected - the work computer immediately detected VPN packet and probably locked me out of teams outlook and so the work VPN.

Is there anyway around???

Does changing the listen port make a difference (wireguards default is 51820)? Or could it be some settings on my work computer.

Im also connecting to my travel router via wifi…doesn’t have to be using an Ethernet cable? Would that bypass whatever set up there is?

Did I need to do any other set ups on the vpn server or client router?

Thank you!!

Edit://

So as instructed by a comment- I plugged in the Ethernet cable via an adapter (cause no Ethernet port)… it work resolved the teams and outlook situation! but - the vpn Cisco access issue remains and now a new issue of unstable connection.

Does the usb 3 or usb c adapter make a difference? Flat vs round cable?

Is there anything else in the settings that I should check?

DDNS is only needed on the server router assuming you have a dynamic public IP (most people do, unless you have a business plan with your ISP).

You should NEVER use a commercial VPN with your work devices. If you’re locked out then there’s nothing we can do.

Wireguard will work fine with Cisco Anyconnect. 51820 default port is fine, though in some cases the port can be blocked at the client side (not by your work computer though).

You should not be connecting via Wi-Fi. Only ethernet. Wi-Fi geolocation can give away your true location.

You should take a moment to read through this: https://thewirednomad.com/vpn

Hijacking OP’s thread since I’m in the same position, that guide you posted says to get the Brume2 as your server. Should I get that, or is it easier with two GL-MT3000 like OP did? Someone told me the Brume2 was harder to set up.

Thanks the Ethernet cable solves the teams and outlook… but still go the anyconnect vpn issue + a new issue of unstable connection :smiling_face_with_tear::smiling_face_with_tear::smiling_face_with_tear:

I would recommend the Brume 2 as the server because it’s cheaper and doesn’t have Wi-Fi which you don’t need for a server. It’s GL.iNet’s purpose-built router for VPN servers. Now if you were planning to replace your home router entirely with a new router, then I’d recommend something like a Flint 2 which is much more expensive.

The Beryl AX (MT3000) is best as a travel router. There is no difference in setup. They both use the same firmware. Perhaps the person was referring to it being harder to setup because they had to wire directly into the Brume 2 with ethernet to initially set it up instead of simply connecting to a Wi-Fi network like with other routers.
