hide.Me VPN Set Up

So I have decided to pony up for hide.me. Seems to work just fine. What I am wondering is, what are the optimal settings for running my connection through this service?

The one issue I am noticing is that my connection runs SUPER slow. It even just disconnects on its own, which obviously defeats the purpose of the VPN when it goes right back to my normal wifi.

Could it be because it’s on wifi? Is there something else I am missing?

Any help is appreciated.

It’s all dependant on your server choices, and how much dependency others in your area might have on them.

Regarding disconnects going back to your normal wifi, I would advise you make use of the Killswitch feature which will kick in the moment your connection happens to drop protecting you against any data or dns leaks to a service you might be unblocking at the time. We’re currently looking at the service in depth so hopefully will get a blunt/honest review of what hide.me can do down the road. We will be sure to look into these speed and connectivity issues people seem to keep popping up with.

strange, they are really fast and very reliable. Are you using their custom app or OpenVPN client or manual configuration of some other protocol (Hide.me supports 6 different protocols). Actually, are you talking about their free service or premium? Because free service indeed is slow. But I think you might be better off if you contact their support team (they are generally quite intelligent).

Vypr has 3 days premium trial so you may want to use their service to see if the issue is with Hide.Me or something else.

Unfortunately, they don’t provide a client for Linux.
Their Windows app lacks OpenVPN, uses IKEv2 instead.
A lot of their servers show a wrong country in the geolocation databases.
Overpriced service IMO

You picked one of the crappier VPNs in my personal opinion. Check out the comparison chart: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FJTvWT5RHFSYuEoFVpAeQjuQPU4BVzbOigT0xebxTOw/edit#gid=0

Had you selected someone like AirVPN, Torguard, NordVPN, etc. you likely wouldn’t be having this issue. You want one with both good speeds, and a network lock / kill switch feature.

This is extremely helpful. I will try and find the Killswitch feature tonight. This was the biggest thing I was worried about.

I THINK I am using their custom app. But I am not entirely sure. I pay for the premium service and downloaded straight from their site.

There another service you would recommend?

Whoa. That is insane. Thanks for the info
