How can a Canadian use a VPN to access US-only Netflix?

Hi. VPN newbie here.

I, a Canadian, don’t really understand how to use my VPN (NordVPN) to access US-only content.

Because I signed up for Netflix using Netflix’s Canadian website, I presume Netflix knows I live in Canada).

So if, for example, I’m trying to dial in using NordVPN from “Chicago”, is Netflix still only going to serve me Canada-only shows because it knows I actually live in Canada?

Hopefully this is clear. I just want to watch “Nomadland” from Canada, and I haven’t figured out how to do it.

Many thanks for your responses.

Enough VPNs are banned that I would just try out demos from any number of them until you find one that both works and loads quickly.

Don’t forget to cancel the other ones before the end of their trial periods.

To put it very simply - if you connect to a VPN server in the US, Netflix will think you’re in the US and show you content accordingly.

If Netflix recognizes you’re using a VPN, quit the browser and connect to a different server from the same country until it works - it usually does with most popular VPNs, you just might need to play around with different servers in case it doesn’t on the first try.

I’d advise using Netflix on a browser instead of the app when connected via VPN as there’s usually less chance of detection.

BTW, Nomadland is on Disney+ in Canada.

Hopefully this is clear. I just want to watch “Nomadland” from Canada, and I haven’t figured out how to do it.

That is why people illegally download films, using torrents.

Works for me I do it all the time. Occasionally you need to clear your cache or data.

All descriptions must be vendor-neutral. This applies to naming specific VPN providers, and any features that are specific to one provider. Most questions can be answered without knowing which provider you’re using.
This rule is enforced due to the commercial nature of most VPN providers.
