How safe is Nord; it seems very mainstream?

I’m looking for some protection when I use certain streaming sites, go for quick sail, and maybe use an online tv subscription or two. Nord is always recommended over something like ExpressVPN, but how safe is it really?

I’m seeing huge YouTube channels, and even seen a television ad for the service. Obviously that means it’s legit, but how much protection are you really gonna get if the service is being advertised everywhere? I dunno, I always felt like a VPN should be a bit more…secretive?

Does this really block your ip when you’re using certain services?

Thank you.

Iv downloaded about 30TB of videos so far, all on Nord. Seems safe to me

Works for me. Have to switch servers sometimes for netflix or bbc iplayer etc
Best feature for me is obfuscated VPN because it works in Russia and places I travel to where VPNs are sometimes blocked.
I used to check ip address on ipleak dnsleak findmyip etc. I suspected my actual local IP might be visible but it never was so I don’t really bother to check anymore.
Been using NORD almost continuously since 2019.

I think it’s would just take one instance of an IP being harvested from a Nord server by a court or something to bring it down, and that hasn’t happened yet. Their only job is to cover people’s tracks, and they’ve done that 100% so far. Seems safe to me.

I’ve used it with TPB without any issues for a few years now.

I’ve been using it for 6 years, never had issues

Safe for what? Downloading a Netflix movie without getting a copyright infringement email from your ISP? Safe enough if you set everything right. Hiding from authoritarian government hunting your down for opposition journalism? Probably not, idk.

Fine for tor.

I wouldn’t trust it past that.

NordVPN is like that popular kid who secretly aces all the tests—mainstream but solid when it comes to keeping your IP under wraps.

its as safe as any other VPN for steaming and Torrents, its just not good at sock5 torrenting but I suspect you wont be doing that, they are all very much the same security wise, just get the cheapest as long as its a well known brand.

i only use nord.i haven’t tried any other premium vpns but my speeds downloading are quadrupled and I never get that pesky letter. works great for me.

I think you misunderstand what a VPN is and maybe have it confused with an Onion Router or something like that.

VPN isn’t supposed to be a secret. Indeed anyone looking at you IP traffic will know it’s from Nord. The point is, that’s all they’ll know.

If you want to fully obfuscuate your web traffic beyond that. Then you’ll need to use Onion Routing or something else. If you don’t want your connection to be obviously going through a VPN.

But the number of times you’d need that, is so small it seems not worth the effort.

All IMHO.
Hope that helped.

Nord is safe enough if you use it for your entire VPN connection. They say they support split tunnelling, but it has never worked for me. I needed some more granular control so I switched to Proton and haven’t looked back. For the record, I used Nord for YEARS.

NordVPN no log policy has been audited: https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/nordvpn-backs-up-its-no-log-claims-with-a-new-audit-from-deloitte/

Their apps are 100% unstable bloated trash in my experience in all OSes except Linux cli version. NordVPN’s servers via my Wireguard router and 3rd party Wireguard apps however are extremely fast and stable. With any tested Dutch server I reach 95-99% of my ISP speed. With Mullvad only 60-70%.

But again: NordVPN’s own apps are an embarrassment so bad and unreliable. Using their apps If your country has high piracy fines, be prepared to become (much) poor(er). If you are a dissident in a dictatorship, arrange your funeral. Because their apps incl. killswitch will crash often and you’ll be on the net unprotected if using their own apps.

Last but not least NordVPN refuses to provide your Wireguard key. Must retrieve yourself via Linux, NordVPN cli and WG tools. Just ridiculous.

heres a good resource; https://thatoneprivacysite.xyz/#detailed-vpn-comparison

This is good to know. This might be dumb to ask (first time in here so apologies in advance) but can your ISP still see what sites you go on even if you use a VPN?

I got a notice one time that I was flagged, so wanting to switch to a VPN ASAP…

Holy shit, fair enough. I mean, I’m sure it’s safe, but…you know? The more mainstream something becomes. I’m mainly looking for iptv usage, but 30TB! Thanks for the response

I think it’s would just take one instance of an IP being harvested from a Nord server by a court or something to bring it down, and that hasn’t happened yet

i’m not so sure it would be disclosed to the public

I mean, I’m guessing we need it for the latter now. But yes, downloading, streaming and IPTV.

Yeah, I’ve never heard of that so I guess it doesn’t apply. Thank you though!
