Hey everyone,
I’m trying to install a VPN on my school laptop, but I don’t have admin rights. I can’t install any software, and the school has blocked a lot of websites. Are there any workarounds or browser-based VPNs that could work?
I mainly just want to access some restricted websites (nothing sketchy, just normal stuff that’s blocked for no reason). Any tips or alternatives would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Most appreciated if the vpn is free thank you
Don’t get kicked off your network for breaking your school’s IT policy.
I mean…that’s WHY they don’t give you admin rights.
Use tor browser or librewolf but they might block both from computer fast tho. To get them on the laptop just transfer the .exe from your phone
Pulse Secure VPN. Good luck…
i dont really care about that
i tried but most are blocked on chrome and opera
which exactly why you should get kicked off your network.
Alternative Workarounds Without Installing Software
Since VPN on phone → Hotspot → Laptop doesn’t usually work without modifications, consider the following options:
1. Use a SOCKS5 Proxy Over Hotspot
If VPN doesn’t route properly via hotspot, you can create a SOCKS5 proxy on your phone and manually configure your laptop’s network settings.
Steps:
- Download a SOCKS5 proxy app on your phone (e.g., “SocksDroid” for Android or “Shadowrocket” for iOS).
- Enable your VPN on the phone.
- Configure the SOCKS5 proxy in SocksDroid using
127.0.0.1:1080
(or the app’s assigned port).
- On your school laptop, go to:
- Windows:
Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings
Mac: System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies
- Manually enter your phone’s IP address & proxy port in the laptop’s network settings.
- Now, traffic from the laptop routes through your phone’s VPN via the proxy.
2. Use a Cloudflare WARP Tunnel
Cloudflare WARP lets you route traffic via their network without installing a VPN.
Steps:
- Download Cloudflare WARP on your phone (free app on iOS/Android).
- Enable WARP Mode (not just DNS mode).
- Enable Hotspot on your phone and connect your laptop.
- On your laptop, manually set your DNS to Cloudflare’s
1.1.1.1
in network settings.
