Hydra.exe taking up all the internet data

Hi all

So I’ve noticed today that Hydra.exe is taking up a lot of my data usage (33 GB over the past 30 days), as compared to Google Chrome which is my primary usage of the laptop (43 GB).

I’ve done a little google search, and the consensus is that it’s a phishing software which came along with a VPN. Now before you ask, yes I have a VPN, Betternet.

I’ve gone through the suggested uninstall routines, finding it in services.ms, and regedit, but can’t locate this executable anywhere.

Any help?

Hydra is part of Betternet, and the reason that it appears to be using so much data is that your internet traffic is being routed through it ( to pass through the VPN ).

So it’s not malware as such, having said that betternet does not seem to have good reviews, and have in the past included malware and tracking into the product to capture valuable user data. The software is free to use because they are getting their revenue from selling on captured data about you and your browsing.

Personally, I would uninstall betternet, and look for a better VPN provider.

Thanks for the reply. So basically the data which I am seeing is actually being routed through Hydra to hide it?

Secondly, which VPN’s do you recommend?

That’s correct, which is why the amount of data going through it is so high. It would be unusual for malware to be using that amount of data. That isn’t to say there isn’t malware included with that VPN though.

I used to use Hide My Ass at work, and had no problems with that, but do some browsing and read reviews of the various services out there. Don’t go with a free one, as there will be a catch - they are business and have to earn money, so if they aren’t charging you directly they`ll be selling your data etc

Thanks alot for the help!

so do you mean that the amount of data that hyda uses is not really being used ? or am i getting this wrong?

Thanks. I’ll definitely look into it.

Proton VPN was another one I found to be credible
