You don’t have to have to have your vpn bound but it stops mistakes happening.So long as your vpn was on anytime you torrent client was working you are fine.
Bind your vpn to your torrent client next time you torrent.
Always bind, it’s the most important thing a

Were you connected to hour VPN while downloading?
If yes, then you have no problem.
Binding stops torrent traffic if your VPN disconnects and starts traffic when you reconnect. That’s all it does.

Unless your torrent client leaks your real IP even with VPN connected, when you think you’re protected. Happened to me twice in the past until I learned what network interface binding means.
