If you have VPN you can bypass them for a couple of days

My landlord has spectrum but almost always refuses to pay monthly and lets it go past the due date. I don’t know why they like to pay extra because of the late fee but not my problem.

I can typically still work online if I turn on my VPN. I think on the day of the due, spec will slow down your internet then after this day they will have a paywall on all browsers. This holds true if you happen to get caught with pirating, in which you need to call them for a resolve.

Anyway it can be about a week until they do a fine for paying late but generally you can still access the internet almost indefinitely if you have a good VPN. I think how it works is that your spectrum device just gets confused and so you can still access it, and it’s a plus if you’re using a router of your own. You can’t use your own modem anymore as it’s a requirement by spectrum but in the past when you can own everything so you don’t have to pay spectrum rental for their equipment, this is literally the method black boxers do. This is when an “employee” installs a pay for only once black box where you can have twc channels and internet forever. Until you get caught or they change their algos.

Anyone in the tech side care to spill how it actually works?

They are probably proxying 80 and 443 traffic and redirecting it to the “payment needed” page, but your VPN uses some other random port so it gets through.

You can use your own modem as long as it’s authorized: Spectrum.net

I’m sure some non authorized would work as well since activation just uses the modem mac address.

they do not slow you down until the account is 45ish+ days oast due. the VPN might get you past that, but your speeds get dropped yo <1Mbp

If ur work providing a VPN, then they need check their connection speeds. I let my users have split, so if wanna watch YouTube doesn’t slow our firewall down.

Now if ur using vpn to torrent, vpn u are using probly slowing down.
Test with no vpn on. What speeds are you getting.
Turn vpn on and test again.

I would suggest PIA. For a vpn. Cheap and speeds are fast.

I remember < 1 Mbps days.
Telephone line modems were all the rage.
