I'm having trouble running Softether VPN client. Can someone please help me?

Everytime I try to run it, nothing happens for like 10 seconds and then it says “Unable to connect to the vpn client service operating on local computer. Make sure the vpn client service has started and is running normally.” I’m using a so called “Connect Box” by the company UPC. This shit is ridiculous, I don’t know what to do.

Thanks in advance.

Ok. Never had a problem with the Windows one, but here’s how both versions work:

They start a service or a daemon in the backend at system start. When you launch the client you’re just launching the GUI really, so that’s why it tries to connect to the service and fails.

Execute “services.msc” to open the services management console in Windows and look for the Softether service. Not sure what name it’ll have, but you know the keywords: Softether, VPN, client. Once found do right click and look for the option to start it.

Once started launch the GUI again.

If it doesn’t start, open the event viewer, Application and look for any related entries.

Did you reboot after installing it? Not sure it’s needed, but as it creates a virtual interface and all that a reboot might be necessary.

I had already tried the services.msc solution with no luck, the program is shown as running but still won’t start up. Just tried the Event Viewer but it doesn’t show the problem in the Application log, nor the other logs. I feel that my ISP might have blocked it and I don’t know what to do.

I don’t think you are at a stage where you would be connecting to a remote site yet, so your ISP is not at play here.

Tried a reinstall?

Yeah, like 3-4 times lol. I really just want to use it because I have a static IP that I can’t change and I’ve been banned from an online game. I’ll see if I can ask on the UPC forum for a solution, if not I’ll just call there. Thanks anyway.

No probs. Bummer we couldn’t find the issue, but the should be logs somewhere.
