Is there a way to obtain a VPN on IPhone if already in China

Hi all. Sorry if this is a silly question. I am completely unaware of/new to VPNs.

Is there any way to download a VPN on ios once you’re already in China? My partner had downloaded nordVPN expecting it to work whilst she was travelling in China, but unfortunately we found out the hard way that it doesn’t work. Now she is trying to figure out a way to get a VPN while she’s in China.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Censorship sucks ass.
Here’s to get u to the open net, as soon as u get there, download streisand and get some xray config from Chinese resellers at telegram, as of now it’s bulletproof.

If you’re on an iphone you should be ok with purchasing on a computer then just downloading the app. If you’re on an android you can purchase on a computer then simply transfer the APK file they give you on to your phone.

As a foreigner yes. On iPhone it is not Geo locked but rather region locked by Apple ID. Downloading from the App Store is fine. For simple usage, LetsVPN is the easiest without much thinking. On Android however if I’m not wrong Google playstore is locked and you cannot access it without a vpn. On Android however, a apk can be used to download a vpn.

That said it’s a different matter if you have a china iPhone, which shouldn’t concern you.

Apple Ids are linked to a geographical region, and VPNs are selectively blocked by App Store depending on that region. So if her Apple Id is linked to a foreign country, she should be able to search for, install, and purchase subscriptions for VPNs in the App Store normally. If it’s linked to China she’ll have to switch her Apple Id region first.

I did the same as you. Astrill.

Yes, just install Astrill

Hello! Don’t worry, this isn’t a silly question at all. Many people find themselves in similar situations when traveling to China. Here’s some information that should help your partner:

  1. Downloading VPNs in China: Good news! While Apple has removed all VPN apps from the Chinese version of the App Store, your partner should still be able to download VPN apps if her App Store account is set to a country other than China. Even while physically in China, she can access the non-Chinese version of the App Store associated with her account’s country, where VPN apps remain available.

  2. Well-known VPN issues: Unfortunately, many well-known VPN providers like NordVPN often struggle to work consistently in China. The Chinese government’s censorship system (known as the Great Firewall) is very sophisticated and frequently blocks these popular services.

  3. Lesser-known VPNs: For better results in China, it’s often more effective to use lesser-known VPN brands. They tend to fly under the radar of censorship efforts for longer. One such option is Tegant VPN, which is designed specifically to work in challenging environments like China.

  4. Power of Xray: Tegant uses a technology called Xray, which is particularly effective at bypassing China’s internet restrictions. Xray is an advanced protocol that’s much harder for the Great Firewall to detect and block, making it a more reliable choice for use in China.

  5. Guaranteed to work: While no VPN can promise 100% uptime in China, Xray-based VPNs like Tegant have a much higher success rate and are more likely to provide consistent access to blocked sites and services.

To get started, your partner can try the following steps:

  1. Open the App Store
  2. Search for “Tegant VPN”
  3. Download and install the app
  4. Follow the in-app instructions to set up and connect

You can read more about them at https://tegant.com

I hope this helps your partner get connected soon! Let me know if you need any more information or clarification.

Oh sorry I didnt read your title correctly, yes if you have a foreign apple id it should be very simple
