I have been trying to install this in my desktop and this notification pops up when i try installing it:
I have used protonvpn earlier and uninstalled it like 3 months ago. I am trying to reinstall it but this message keeps on coming and I cant find the msi file in any of my directory
Update:- I have even tried downloading the windows version from Ubuntu vm box and deleting all kinds of antivirus from pc. Also, I found this 1.1.4 msi file instead of 1.1.3 file inside the temp folder of C: drive but the problem remains same.
Hi! Are you still having issues? If you are, could you please fill out a support ticket here? We can help troubleshoot this further for you. We appreciate you posting here and would like to make sure you’ve been able to resolve this issue.
Can you try to fully uninstall and try again?
Could you please first uninstall our software off your device, using the Programs and Features option found under the Control Panel?
Then navigate to Control Panel → Device manager → Network adapters → select TAP-ProtonVPN Windows Adapter V9 → right-click on it → Uninstall device → confirm Uninstallation.
Also, select ProtonVPN Tunnel adapter → right-click on it → Uninstall device → confirm Uninstallation. If there is no TAP-ProtonVPN or ProtonVPN Tunnel entry, please proceed with the next step.
Afterward, open up the %LOCALAPPDATA% or C:\Users\Your_Username\AppData\Local and check if there is a Proton VPN folder found there. If yes, delete the Proton VPN folder.
Which version of Windows are you using? Do you have a firewall activated or an application that manages the firewall (e.g. malware bytes windows firewall control)? From the screenshot, it appears that something is blocking the download of the additional package.
Since i couldnt install it in the first place, I couldnt find the application in Program and features but I did all the following process, except I couldnt find ProtonVPN tunnel adapter and the problem still remains the same. Should i restart my desktop and then reinstall it again?
i am using version 10 and I have avast free antivirus running
Please try installing Proton with admin permissions, with Avast disabled or uninstalled. Anti virus programs have a habit of ‘overprotecting’ your system and causes a ton of frustration down the line.
I’d suggest removing Avast free anti-virus. Often times it spams you with messages suggesting to switch to their paid service for what windows does automatically and built in for free. Also, try reading their reputation as they have sold out their company and make anything painfully hard to do. I’ve also had a ton of issues with the program as it slowed my PC down and offered no benefit whatsoever by preventing me to install my own programs.
Don’t get me wrong, anti-virus software is helpful and I am not recommending you to remove everything, but I suggest not using avast and look for other reputable companies. Windows defender is built in and free, and also does a scan each time you turn your computer on. Chrome also does the same thing after launch. Unless you somehow really need its functions and are loyal, I’d suggest disabling or uninstalling Avast.
I don’t know if this will fully fix your issue but its worth a shot, right?
So, should I use chrome for installing protonVPN? I usually use firefox and I have uninstalled any kinds of antivirus that i have downloaded including avast.
