Just upgrade from pixel 2 to pixel 8. Android auto is no longer a separate app, how can I exclude it from my VPN for AA Wireless?

So I just got a pixel 8, I run a vpn on my phone 24/7, and I have the motorola m1a wireless module. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to allow android auto to run while my vpn is running.

I’ve tried googling the problem, and it seems android auto is now integrated into the OS, and something related to the vpn built into the Google 1 app? I tried playing around with that, but i have no idea what I’m doing. I feel like I don’t even need the google 1 vpn running since I already have one, but do I need to be turning it on or something?

I just don’t know what to do. I’ve read through a dozen posts and tried probably just as many things, but nothing is fixing the problem. I’m getting to the point where I’m considering just having tasker disable my vpn when it connects to my car’s bluetooth, but I’d prefer to only do that as a last resort.

Any tips would be super appreciated, as my googling is not yielding and solutions for me. TIA

Android Auto is still an app, but a system app. Some VPN apps, like NordVPN, allow you to exclude any app, including system apps, from the tunneling. I am not sure if that would solve your problem though.

Good luck

Google fixed the Google 1 vpn to automatically exclude Wireless AA

From the various comments dates, it seems like was fixed then broken again

I have a Pixel 8 Pro with Google VPN turned on. Also have a Carsifi wireless AA dongle in my Mazda 3, and AA works fine in the car. Not that this helps you, but just adding my experience to the mix.

Oh wow, I see it! That’s awesome, thank you so much. I’m certain this will work, but I will report back tomorrow anyways

Just wanted to come back and say that this definitely worked, thanks!

It was fixed on my 6a, but broke again on my new 8

You should have a free vpn with the Google one app already installed in your phone btw, never used it myself tho.
