Missing the Dashlane Desktop App? Try this:

It’s possible to use PIA’s OpenVPN by itself without requiring the PIA desktop application.

Fairly sure hotspot shield can too lol, it’s a large VPN outside of the Dashlane offering. I mean sure PIA might be better, I don’t know :man_shrugging:t2: just pointing out that the VPN benefit still exists.

And I found that hardware key page: https://support.dashlane.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021374760-How-to-log-in-with-biometrics-or-a-security-key-on-the-web-app-and-the-extension-

If your key doesn’t work it may not be compatible with that WebAuthn protocol

If you log out manually, you will be prompted to enter your Master Password to log in to your Dashlane account, and you’ll have to re-enable the feature.

This is not what I am talking about, I am talking about using a security key as a second factor instead of a 2FA code via an authenticator app. This was a thing in the desktop app as well as on Android, but now only exists on Android.

just pointing out that the VPN benefit still exists.

Then you probably don’t understand why you would want to use a VPN for something outside a web browser…

Fairly sure hotspot shield can too

It can, but it’s targeted only at routers that have a VPN function built in. Besides, that’s not the point- the point is that previously the Dashlane desktop app was all I needed, but now I need three separate apps to do the things that the Dashlane desktop app did.

You do realize when you’re connected to a VPN via a desktop app, it’s your entire connection going through the VPN not just the browsers right?

And for the hardware key: https://support.dashlane.com/hc/en-us/articles/207051919-U2F-functionalities-with-Dashlane

As I mentioned before, they said it’ll be added to the web in the future. So (like I mentioned) I believe the only feature actually dropped was emergency contact - that they confirmed will not be in the web. That’s the biggest complaint I have on the desktop being dropped, I used the extension or mobile app for pretty much everything else anyways so it’s been nice seeing new features added to the web in the last few months.

Thanks Aliceable, what you say is very accurate.

The browser implementation of hardware keys are still in a early stage but we’re pushing Google and Firefox to enhance their support of such feature. So when 2FA with hardware keys will be doable, we’ll do for sure.

Concerning the emergency contact feature, it’s clearly something that will be back in the future, in a way better shape.

Last but not least, the VPN is better outside of the Dashlane app even if it adds yet another app: way more platform supported, more settings to fit your needs, maintained with the latest features, dedicated support… I’m pretty happy I can use it on my Android TV for instance

There are some other super cool features coming all along this year!
