At the top right, click the more button (the 3 dots)
Navigate to More Tools >Create shortcut.
Enter a name for the shortcut (Dashlane… or trashlane if you prefer) and check the box to “open as Window” and click Create.
Now it should open your new standalone “dashlane desktop chrome app” (Even though it’s just opening chrome on the backend!)
The new Dashlane Chrome app should appear on your start menu automatically
If you want it pinned to your taskbar, you can also right-click the icon while it’s running and pin it to your taskbar as well.
The experience is very close to the previous desktop app, most of our users didn’t notice much of a difference, but just simply having the app on the taskbar brought them huge comfort.
Web app sucks compared to desktop app. Why a company would drop an app that is best-in-class for one that nobody wants is beyond me. I have no doubt that they’ll lose a ton of revenue, they’ll be using my $60/month for what it’s worth.
They definitely lost me as a customer with the dropping of the desktop app. The web app has half of the functionality for the same fucking price… it’s ridiculous. I’m slowly trying out other password managers trying to find a suitable replacement. It’s just really hard considering Dashlane nails their UX/UI so fucking well.
I mean VPN is still offered, and according to the help docs hardware keys are supported in the web, but I think it’s only certain browsers at the moment (I’m guessing browser limitations).
I’ve started free trials for 1Password, Keeper and Bitwarden. So far, I think I’m leaning towards Bitwarden. We shall see once I play around with them all a little bit more and see how they integrate into my workflow.
No… the VPN I’m talking about is a computer-wide VPN that other applications can use, not just your web browser. VPN is still offered through Hotspot VPN but this is mostly aimed at smartphones.
Hardware keys are no longer supported, the only place where they still have support is the Android app as a log in factor.
You can install the hotspot VPN application on your desktop, you just log in with the same credentials Dashlane creates. I have the hotspot shield desktop app & it works great, I watch British TV with it.
