Before I went to China, I search the internet which one works in China for VPN. Do get it before going to China. I use LetsVPN besides I got the local sim card to boot which is way cheaper. Depending on what city you are going to. Each province in China have different packages. There’s data for local and national. If you are staying in a local city most of the times, you can get 300 GB then 15 GB national for 29 yuan which is less than 6 dollars per month with China Mobile. This is what I got in a local city.
If you have a visa card, it will ask you to verify your account through SMS if do any online shopping while in China though. Using VPN for CIBC will ask you to verify through SMS since they don’t use email to verify anymore. Without VPN, I was able to access CIBC.
I had no problems making transactions through physical credit card through Visa or MC. I also use Wealthsimple Cash card as well.
I have no problems with BMO MC when doing online transactions though. It’s best to carry at least two visa and two MC.
I always buy the local sim card even arriving at the airport usually have somewhere to buy it as well.
From the fine print I found:
“Unlimited Plans Data Policy4 only applies to data usage in Canada, U.S. and Mexico. See Unlimited Plans Data Policy and Fair Usage Policy for more details”.
If one has the win back plan of $44/month ($24/29 after digital discount & win back discount), will the win back discount of $10/15 carry over to this Roam Beyond plan for $45, essentially making it $30/35 depending on win back discount one has?
Thanks
PS: Forgot to thank you for shaking up the industry last year and keeping up the momentum. Great job, snatch some Robellus customers please.
Interesting, I wonder if ‘select destinations’ refers to US+Mexico.
See this RFD post on the matter:

The Roam Beyond add-ons clearly state you get global texting in the 81 countries. You’d expect the plan to be the same.
Roam Beyond Pass (81 destinations) Add a one-time use pass to your plan, with data, unlimited local/back-to-Canada calling, and unlimited global texting in 81 destinations. Valid for 30 days.
