NO P2P TRAFFIC IS PERMITTED ON THIS SERVER
Your connection has been automatically disabled because certain servers (such as free servers), don’t support P2P traffic.
If you wish to use P2P applications with ProtonVPN, please upgrade to a paid plan.
ProtonVPN paid plans have special servers for high performance P2P which are designated by the
icon in ProtonVPN clients and dashboards.
To restore your current connection, wait 5 minutes or disconnect and reconnect to ProtonVPN.
Disallowing P2P traffic on free servers is necessary so that ProtonVPN Free can support as many people as possible. Thank you for your understanding.
I receive this error after waking up and checking my computer. I don’t use P2P (I assume). Is this some sort of virus? I saw a similar post related to “torrent” but I am pretty sure I have never used it. Only things I have done on this new laptop are to download Proton VPN, work-related and download a few games from Steam. Should I be worried someone is stealing my information through malware, spyware? Any info appreciated.
Somehow your computer had P2P traffic, which was blocked. What your computer is doing, I cannot tell you.
I got this today.
It blocked me from using an app from my mobile telephone provider to chat with them on a support call. Totally ridiculous.
By it’s very nature and design, all IP traffic is peer to peer bar some multicast stuff.
Do any of the games you’ve played have P2P multiplayer, such as GTAO or RDO?
BattleNet and Windows use P2P to download updates, so that might have triggered it.
Hi! That sounds odd indeed. Can you please open a support ticket at Proton VPN - Support Form | Proton VPN so we can find out some additional info?
Was this a one-time event or are you still experiencing the same issue?
What exactly you were doing at the time this issue occurred?
Which exact Proton VPN server (e.g. CH#10) you were connected to when the issue occurred?
Are you aware of any P2P applications running in the background (e.g. Torrenting, messaging, Skype, Viber, Popcorn Time, games, etc.)?
Have you tried clearing your web browser cache & cookies and then check if the issue persists (https://protonvpn.com/support/clear-browser-cache-cookies/) ?
Please provide us with a currently running list of processes and services. This can be done by executing the following commands in Command Prompt at the exact same time you encounter this issue:
tasklist /FO csv > “%userprofile%\desktop\tasks.csv”
tasklist /svc /FO csv > “%userprofile%\desktop\services.csv”
You can learn how to open the command prompt here: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/7-ways-launch-command-prompt-windows-7-windows-8
After running these commands, you will see two new files created (tasks.csv and services.csv) on your desktop. Please send these files to us.
