Hey! I tried researching but couldn’t find a definitive answer. If I buy nord vpn can I connect it directly to my Xfinity gateway router or do I have to buy a 2nd router and run Xfinity in bridge mode? Hoping I can just connect it directly, sorry for the question I’m a noob
Simple Answer; You don’t need any special router or a 2nd one, it’ll work fine with Xfinity routers.
Detailed Answer: I think you got a bit of a misunderstanding as to how VPNs work. Unless the Network Admin disallows Nordvpn authentication servers (which wouldn’t happen on your home network or most networks in general), you can use NordVPN on any network with any router.
How a VPN works is simply encrypting and forwarding your traffic, your router just provides a gateway for that encrypted traffic to access the internet itself.
All you have to do is connect to your WiFi as usual, then in the NordVPN app, choose a server to connect to. A good way to test and make sure the connection is working is to choose a NordVPN server in another country. Then google “whats my ip”, there should be a result from whatsmyip or some similar site. Once you click on it it’ll also show you the location that IP is associated with and the provider. As long as it doesn’t say Comcast/Xfinity and has a location different then your own, it should be working.
