Currently on express vpn, considering changing to proton Plus VPN,
I have proton mail on my laptop, i will need to have VPN on my laptop and also on my desktop machine which is a shared machine, my wife and daughter use it as well well as myself. It will be torrenting occasionally but I do not want my proton account info on the desktop machine, email etc. Is this possible with proton VPN?
You could consider using different connections from the native client installed on your different devices since the paid plan supports multiple simultaneous connections (however you’ll be required to be logged into your account on each device where you’re using the VPN).
Or you could set up the VPN on a router, although this will likely prove to be a less flexible setup: https://protonvpn.com/support/installing-protonvpn-on-a-router/
Each account gets 10 devices that can connect at a time. You can generate credentials that you can for such a use case. You can then use the native windows VPN client for the machine rather than the Proton client. It’s not as flexible this way but that what I use for my Synology NAS. The credentials aren’t 100% secure this way but they can only be used for VPN, not for your email, pass or calendar access.
I’ve had proton on my last 2 routers and it works great
Asus has a simple interface for using proton config. files which make it super easy to get vpn on your router
I do not have a router, we live very rural area with broadband speed of 1 MB only so we have to use mobile phone hotspot which goes at 30 - 40MB with 4G. Asked BT to give me a price to put a faster line to the farm, they said 80k
Thanks for helping, I do not completely understand though unfortunately, are you saying I can set up the VPN on the shared machine used by family and occasional teenaged friends without having my password stored on it which would give access to my inbox and drive and account info? I have been unable to find info from proton
