Decided to not use VPN, because it had some data limit (hotspot shield) just once to download Portal 2 through torrenting. Get call from internet company. Service suspended.
Sharing my story so others don’t suffer as well.
Use protection. Have plan B. Stay safe, kids.
Edit: I’m in the US. I know pirating isn’t a bigger issue in 3rd world countries. Not something to brag about when it comes to data security, honestly.

I live in Austria and have been torrenting about 3tb and uploading 10tb. Haven’t gotten a call or an email or anything in the mail. I guess they don’t care a lot about this stuff, my provider is drei. But still be cautious
Bro i keep seeing these stories and thinking that im burning through my life’s worth od luck. Ive torrented like 300gb of AAA games and havent received a single email or call or anything. Ive toned it down a lot since though, since Im sure my luck would run out quick if I kept going at the rate I was going at.
what if you never use a vpn and you never gotten a call or anything?
edit:i wasn’t saying don’t use a vpn, you should. but im wondering why i never gotten a call or anything
Edit2: i just noticed that protonvpn is free unlimited, i thought there was a limit but i guess not. so i’m gonna use that unless someone can point me to a better free vpn
how do internet companies even find out that ur doing the dirty? I mean the isp’s surely don’t care its just the company that owns the software that does, so how do they know?
I’m really sorry for Americans when it comes to things like this. It’s not just 3rd world countries where nobody gives a f*ck, it’s most of the world in my experience. Only a handful of countries actively go after torrenters like this. I know about the US, UK and Germany. Never heard similar reports from anywhere else.
