Unblock websites for school

Looking for a good way to get around my school’s restricted wifi network while staying within chrome os to access blocked websites that are sometimes needed but blocked by default

I hate to be a wet blanket, but if getting around restricted sites were as easy as you wanted it to be, the whole Chromebook model that’s being pitched to businesses and schools would fall apart; much in the same way the ipad rollout failed in California where kids were bypassing the restrictions on it.

Ah back in my day we used anonymizer proxies. Maybe a vpn could work

Leave a PC on at home and remote desktop to it.

Done this to play Civ V from a chromebook on a slow day at the office.

Get a free host and run a glype proxy. Or run on your own desktop at home and connect at school. Remember to open the webserver port on your router

A) reset the device into dev mode, permitting you aren’t going to be expelled *this only works if the block is one the device itself B) use some form of vpn C) use teamviewer to log into your computer at home. I chose option C because it is the safest. Screw the system man!!!

I get exactly what you’re saying because my school had the iPad issue last year. Everyone got around the restrictions so they installed even more restrictive software on them which slowed them down alot.
Anyways I bought a chrome book because the iPads are basically paper weights and I’d like to use my personal chrome book at school to its full extent.

I’ll try that, is That what the chrome extension is called?

Back in my day we just used https instead of http…my school didn’t know how to block things…

I’ve tried multiple and no success. Any known suggestions?

Thanks but none of the vpns I’ve tried have worked. Do you have a specific suggestion?

Not wishing to go to that extreme to go on reddit from my chrome book by leaving my pc on and letting it use so much power. Bug I set up screen mirroring anyways and I will definitely use this for a civ lan party

There wifi, there rules. I know it sucks. If you really want to get around it permanently, bring your own, either tether it to your phone, or get a Chromebook with its own 3g/4g/LTE data.

access blocked websites that are sometimes needed but blocked by default

If there is a legitimate need, petition your school, this is how the real world works, I know, because my work’s IT department is like that, and screw up the firewall rules every now and then. Some weeks I have them on speed dial

Yeah, one’s from google, one’s from a thirdparty. both work.

Google cache of pages we wanted, here.

Uphill both ways we walked to school, too.

I ended up starting a Web server on my desktop at home and running my own proxy since all the known ones were already blocked. Ymmv
