I’m thinking about investing in a vpn, but will it help out with this server lag that’s way too prevalent in our games?
Vpn will always increase latency . Always
VPN doesn’t reduce ping. And server lag is needed to fix on the other side, not on yours.
So it’s worth the purchase then?
not in my case. Probably a problem with my ISP though
VPN reduces ping in my case. Get stable 175-200ms with it off, stable 60ms with Cyberghost VPN on. What’s weird is that this only started happening like a week ago. I’ve been playing since November and have never experienced anything like this until now.
Everything I’ve read on vpns say that it does reduce ping… is that just a sales point or what ?
Never use a vpn for gaming unless your local game server is somehow handicapped in a way that would make the latency gain from a VPN worthwhile.
VPNs are great for unlocking regional streaming locks (i.e. American Netflix from Europe) and for protecting your connection, given that’s an issue to begin with.
For gaming, on the other hand, they’ll only ever increase ping.
It doesn’t reduce ping. I use vpn for downloading as I get the same speeds but my ping increases.
I don’t know where did you read that, but that’s bs. VPN makes you connect to a different server, so you can pretend you’re at a different place. That means your data have travel to the VPN host before it travels to the gaming server. Meaning it increases ping.
VPN is good if you want to hide your data, location or want to acces something that’s otherwise not avaiable in your region. It’s not good for gaming.
Yep, only difference is you’re adding another point the connection has to hop off to before finally reaching the final destination
