So I just moved and have Verizon fios, initially cool because faster speeds and cheaper then my previous provider. Now I find Verizon blocks nyaa and some others. I have a real-debrid account already but now need recommendations on VPN service to be able to watch anime mostly. Kaito stopped working all together and I’m unsure if links are being blocked anywhere else. Please hit me with what trusted services are out there you guys are using, bonus points if your on Verizon fios and can confirm it allows access to nyaa.si.
Update Well I took every ones advice and tried resetting router with Google DNS, reset my connections and router and cleared DNS setting and reestablished all connections under new DNS and did not have any luck. It came down to adding the zomboided VPN manager and setting up IPvanish and I am now scraping from nyaa again. Thanks for all the information everyone hit me back with, hope this helps someone else with verizon.
Change your router DNS settings to Google or Cloudflare. The fios provided settings are probably blocking certain sites. I had this same issue with TWC.
I also have Verizon Fios. I never have an issue with anything I try to watch, however I use Premiumize over Real Debrid. I use my own router too, not the default one. I also have a PiHole attached to the network, but it only blocks DNS ads so that shouldn’t play a factor in getting stuff blocked.
First, to get your anime fix, just use the fireanime APK. It works very well.
Secondly, to my knowledge Verizon hasn’t publicly acknowledged they are blocking nyaa, which is absolute bullshit, and rest assured that they will be punished financially in the near future for. (Not because anyone gives a shit about us, the users, but because if they can block THAT, then why aren’t they blocking child porn?). Common carrier status is just that, they’re the fucking road, they can set different speeds for different lanes(protocols), they can even set up bypasses (CDN’s), but they can’t put up road blocks. There will be a few states attorneys general (that is the correct way to plural that btw) who will be seeing an opportunity to cash in on Verizon’s mistake.
In the meantime, call for a service call. Tell them random web pages aren’t displaying on your home account, but do show up on your phone. Do NOT tell them which sites, just be firm that your internet or Verizon supplied router isn’t working properly and demand a tech to show up.
Make it cost them a few bucks to tell you they’re (illegally and against contract) blocking websites without notifying you.
Thanks I’m gonna look into it, I’ve never had to use a VPN before so I’m gonna have to do some research into setup. Are you using your own router or the one supplied by verizon?
So I tried everything I could and it came down to setting up IPVanish through zomboided VPN manager and your right, speeds are great and I am scraping from nyaa again.
Yeah I considered moving from real-debrid to premiumize but I’ve heard premiumize has a lot of service issues/outages. I dont have any issues with seren or oath, really it’s just an issue with anime. Kaito and seren scrape nyaa, seren will pull from other sources on some anime but not all.
I rebooted router but I just realized there is the ont something or another outside where it connects to house that I may need to reset I’ll try that later and see if that works
From what I can tell from a quick googling, librelec caches network settings for boot up connecting. I should be able to do a soft settings reset to clear it and reestablish network connection to router hopefully connecting through Google dns. I’ll let you know. I’ll also try that command on my laptop just to see if I can get anything working.
