Weird Nord Renewal

I’ve been with NordVPN since 2017 and have generally always been happy with the service, each renewal I was able to make use of discount codes and top up for an extra few years making a decent saving. Well this year it’s all gone a bit wrong.

I paid $79 in 2017 for 2 years, $107.55 in 2019 for 3 years which expired on the 19th July 2022. I’ve just paid $99 for the next year.

I was getting emails to say ‘your card details are expired, please update’ but I specifically ignored these as it was an old, expired card that has been replaced by a new card, knowing that when it failed to auto-renew I would find a code and top up again for the next length of time.

I’ve checked emails today and they’ve managed to take $99 for the next 12 months. Ignoring the fact that that is a stupid renewal fee when there’s so many discounts around, how have they managed to take funds from an old credit card that is expired and doesn’t exist now and the charge has actually shown up on the statement of the NEW card?

I spoke to Nord and got someone named Enzo who had an attitude when I asked if they could maybe apply some discount or a second year or something as I felt $99 was a bit high of a renewal and was told nope, nothing we can do. I’ll obviously be speaking to credit card people also but this whole thing stinks.

This is what they do to people.

Similar here.

It was coming up to renewal time and I had a new credit card. I had an email to update my details, went on to Nord and declined to update the CC details thinking that I’d try another service. I had a response offering 2 years at about $100 and accepted that, so I updated the CC details. When the renewal date hit, they billed me $100 for 1 year!! Denied all knowledge of the 2 year offer. Unfortunately, I’d deleted the email audit trail so I can’t prove anything.

Moral - if you get an offer, keep the emails especially the confirmations!!!

Bummer man. Heard this before and renewed before my time was up. It went fine.
I have no idea how the do the renewal on an old card. Perhaps one of the mods could explain it?
