We are thrilled to announce that Private Internet Access (PIA) is releasing a new Beta Android app [4.0.0-rc01], built on an entirely new Kotlin code base. We are also testing our new UI for the first time which will be rolled out across all of our platforms by the end of 2024.
What does this mean for you?
We are excited to share that as of today, 21st March 2024, the redesigned PIA Android application is now available for Beta testing! The PIA development team firmly believes in staying ahead of the game and making use of the latest technologies.
This is why our team has taken on the task to significantly overhaul our Android application. In this new release, you will be able to enjoy the following benefits:
Improved performance: Our application has been fine-tuned to run at peak efficiency, ensuring a smoother app experience. Users should now have a faster time to connect to a PIA server!
Sleek User Interface (UI): We’ve taken the user interface to a whole new level by providing a user-friendly experience that retains the customisation and features that our users know and love. The app now fully supports dark mode based on device settings, offers new more responsive widgets and a refreshed home screen amongst other exciting improvements.
Modernized Codebase: We have significantly overhauled our codebase and rewrote it in Kotlin, which is known for its clarity and conciseness.
All of this will of course be open sourced as usual upon the full release which will take place in April! Please be aware that as this is an entirely new application your customisation settings won’t carry across.

I just updated to 4.0.0-rc03, nice clean look, easier to get around inside the settings, loads faster, it’s only been about 15 minutes but I like what I see and operates/settings.
PIA 4.0.0-rc03 keep crashing, anyone else crashing? I don’t get any error messages other than Samsung reports it keeps crashing…this is on my A54, 6G/128 storage…my Tablet A9+ 4G/64 storage is doing fine…
I want to know when shadowsocks access will be built into the android app. There is a terrific work around using a 3rd party app, but it would be way more convenient if it was built in, like we already have with the PC application.
On Chromecast with Google TV I can access options menu but then cannot navigate the menu. It stays on-screen but focus returns to main window with no way to navigate to menu.
Unbelievable this bug was released.
I can send an email to support but I’m not sure the address. My dedicated IP doesn’t work. I added the token and can select it as a location but it will switch to the regular IP address for that region. Adding it to favourites also adds both the dedicated IP and it’s corresponding location; removing either from favourites also removes them both.
In this new beta, the quick settings tile (pull down on the notification bar and you get all the tiles like wifi, mobile data, flashlight, PIA used to have one to connect) isn’t present. I would like this to return, as I used it often.
Please add for the PC. Where you can put different applications under another VPN IP address.
Like I want MIRC.EXE to come from Chile or Brave.exe come from Europe.
