im mainly a direct download user for these sorts of things, but i want to try and dabble a bit into this world. i know most people will say that a free vpn is never really good, but ive had heard a few that are okay, but i would mostly use it for other purposes.
my maximum limit for cheap vpns is $10/month, but i would prefer if it was under $6-8.
If you’re just getting into torrenting, free VPNs are usually a bad idea—slow, unreliable, and some even sell your data. For under $10/month, Mullvad is probably the best move at $5, no logs, solid privacy, and you can even pay with cash. Windscribe has a decent free version, but the paid one is way better. PIA is cheap and works fine, but speeds can be hit or miss. ProtonVPN’s free plan isn’t great for torrenting, but the paid one is solid. Honestly, just grab a month of Mullvad and see how it goes—it’s easy and private with no BS.
okay thanks! do you think that direct downloading or torrents are better? im really afraid of getting an isp letter since im not the one in charge of managing that lol
Mullvad free and paid tier blocks torrenting! just canceled my account because there’s was no notification for that. I had to find out from customer service and other users on this group.
I don’t know what constitutes “better” - better is whatever source has the media that you are looking for. I can understand being worried about ISP letters, and I got my share of those way back when, but I’ve now been using a VPN for probably 13(?) years, so it hasn’t been a problem.
Other than usenet, I haven’t even looked at any DDL sites in years, because I can find anything I need on torrent trackers. But the benefit of DDL sites is if they do have whatever you are looking for, you can potentially get much better download speeds (as opposed to an old torrent that may have one seed, and it might take you a week to grab one movie).
