Which browser to you while using VPN?

Hi guys, I recently bought a subscription with TorGuard, and I would like to know which browser is best to use while logged into my account? Also, does it make a difference if I use incognito mode on Chrome?

I’ve also added a Chrome Extension for TorGuard. I simply log in and start browsing. How safe is this? Much appreciated!!!

I use Firefox or Iceweasel. Chrome is produced by Google, and Google’s CEO not only has declared there’s no such thing as privacy, but Google is in the business of tracking people and selling data on people for advertising and other purposes. Thus, it just doesn’t make sense to use any product from Google if you’re concerned about privacy.

We strongly advise using Firefox as it is open source and substantially more configurable than Chrome.

Iceweasel and other variants are also good, but there isn’t as much information out there about hardening them.

I heard Firefox is the safest. Chrome can have DSN leak, which leaks your true IP even when you are connected to VPN.

Incognito mode doesn’t change anything in terms of network. But it might disable your extension.

I use Chromodo which is the most secure chrome browser. Along with that, you should check out sr ware iron.

If OP is on Windows, it’s probably easiest to download a portable version of Firefox, modify that so it’s more privacy respecting, and use that for the VPN, that way that will have a separate profile from the existing one, and not have to deal with switching between the default and private use one.

It’s a shame. I was just going to ask you about Chromium as well. Thanks anyway, bro!

Ever heard of Epic Privacy Browser?

Comodo Chromodo is a closed source browser. Firefox is the better choice.

How is Chromodo the most “secure” chromium based browser, other than it uses Comodo DNS?
Like all Chromium browsers, it’s a privacy nightmare.

With all these browsers you guys are recommending, I can simply log onto my Tor account and start browsing freely? I torrent a lot and want to make sure I’m secured in doing so.

I do use Windows 8. I’m currently downloading Firefox. I’ve used it before but always preferred Chrome for it’s sleekness.

I’m becoming more private about how I use the internet these days. I could use Chrome for basic stuff but I just want to encrypt everything I do from now on.

/u/WhiterThanWalter is referring to the WebRTC bug, which Chrome and IE are susceptible to. Firefox, and many of its derivatives, are not. I just tested Epic Privacy Browser and it doesn’t leak your IP address, despite being based on Chromium.

So I was told in another post that using tor to bittorent is the worst thing in the world, https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/comments/3hv1s5/what_privacy_precautions_should_i_take_before/

Well, it all really depends on how much you value your privacy on the VPN, since you will need more than a browser change, like learning how to cover up your browsing habits, since those can expose you as well. Anyways, if you really need to use Chrome, at least use Chromium, which should have less privacy issues than Chrome, but you’ll probably still need to tweak it, like removing the malicious links and software option which sends the hash and URL of every download you make on Chrome(ium) to Google, to get more privacy.

I still recommend the portable route, so you can easily delete, encrypt, and what not with the browser.

In PAF format Chromium Portable download | SourceForge.net

Alternate version Chromium Updater - Browse /To-Go at SourceForge.net

Just so we don’t misunderstand each other, when I said Tor, I meant TorGuard (VPN), not the dark net Tor…

I’ll go ahead and keep Firefox. I don’t really need to use Chrome, either.

Excuse my ignorance, but I downloaded FF last night. I assume that’s different than the portable version?

They’re the same thing, it’s just the portable version of FF saves the settings and other stuff almost in the same folder.

You can download a portable version from here Mozilla Firefox, Portable (browser) | PortableApps.com and you can even copy over your installation profile to it if you want, and with this you can throw it on a flash drive, phone, other media, or upload it to a cloud service, and then you can then move it to another computer and have all the settings you made to it, come with it.
