I’m looking to get a new WiFi router and am thinking about getting one with ExpressVPN loaded on or one I can load it on to. Any recommendations on which router to get?
We have a 3 floor townhouse. About 1500 sq feet. Trying to build up our smart home with a handful of devices to connect through WiFi. Am I looking at running into any problems I’m not thinking about?
Is this even worth it? Will speeds be decent enough to run a “smart house” if it’s all connected through a vpn router?
IoT devices usually don’t require high bandwidth. Since many websites (e.g., banking & streaming) block VPN, you probably don’t want to run your network exclusively on VPN. Concurrent VPN and non-VPN connections are usually required.
Get an Asus router that has hardware crypto acceleration and install Merlin on it. Then you can run OpenVPN to ExpressVPN and assign which IP on your network should get access via VPN.
Just a tip, if you really want your router to use a VPN, get one with the AES-NI feature. They are more optimized for encryption so it doesn’t compromise the speed too much.
i have a connection from my mobile, through hotspot to other phone, in that other one I have enabled wifi offcorse for inet → tethered over usb in my pc and then cable to router and changed settings express vpn virtual driver to share over Ethernet cable to router and I must say PERFECT
GOT Almost non bad pings got a download speed of 90mbs and upload arround 40
without use of vpn I got almost the same
and if i share wifi hotspot direct trough Wifi card without setup from above
I got very bad pings, Lag Nat type 3 instead of 2 and speed little lower
I second this. I have the model below, which is the 1900ACS and it is fantastic.
The Linksys routers actually have 2 partitions, so you can flash the Express firmware on one, while still leaving the stock Linksys firmware on the other.
If you are comfortable with connecting a laptop to the router with an Ethernet cable and following some relatively straight forward instructions online, you can probably save some money and flash the firmware yourself
I just sent my Linksys WRT3200acm back, worked great for 1 month then had to reboot almost everyday due to Wi-Fi lockup’s. I’ve now got a Netgear R7000 but it’s not as fast as the Linksys and the coverage is less too. The ExpressVPN app on the router is fantastic.
Go for the Linksys I think I was just unlucky.
