I haven’t been able to figure it out. I port forwarded my console with my home router, and I even downloaded the PSPlay app, and they both work flawless and instantly with my home wifi or “local” connect on PSPlay, but as soon as I try to use my mobile hotspot or remote connect on PSPlay, it fails everytime. It did work like 3 times in the span of a week trying to diagnose and figure this shit out. I’m getting really frustrated and before I try and call a tech person and waste time and potential more money, what is the solution?
I’m not using hot spot but this is only post that’s similar.
In the last 4 months I have used remote play with little to no trouble.
Over the last 2 weeks i have noticed that internet 5gUW are well over the recommend 5mbps, but when opening the app, I am immediately told that internet is unstable yatta yatta yatta.
I believe verizon is throttling service only when using this type of application. I will attempt to screen record my findings.
The two most likely possibilities are that your hotspot isn’t getting enough reception to support the download speeds necessary for remote play, or the hotspot plan you have throttles after very little data usage (based on the fact you could connect VERY shortly at the beginning of your attempts to run it
Try using a VPN. It works for some people, it’s the only way I can connect remotely.
Does it work with mobile data on your phone without any hotspot?
It’s the TCL Linkzone 5G UW. I have the Wifiman app and I’ve done countless downloads, my db levels are always around 35-40 which is good, my channel has low traffic, running 160hz, of course it’s the 5GHz SSID, and I also have the security off, no WPA, and UPnP on. My wifi tests on average are around 100-200mbps and uploads is around 3-12mbps, I notice uploads are faster when on 5GUW.
That was my last resort, are there any free VPN’s?
Yes it does, barely, before it disconnects after like 2 mins. The connection is very weak, my phones mobile hotspot is from an IPhone 11 Pro Max. The wifi that comes off is 2.4ghz and slow as hell, but yes it does connect and work for about 2 mins before crashing due to connection lost. So why does it work with my phones mobile hotspot but not an actual mobile hotspot device that’s brand new 2023 model being the TCL Linkzone 5GUW? Both devices are on Verizon.
Uploads could be the bottleneck, but maybe give a VPN a shot? I’m on T-Mobile, but for some reason I couldn’t connect anywhere but the host network until I did that. Smooth sailing since.
I tried a free on that came with my mcafee subscription and it was a bit spotty, but it did work so I paid for PIA VPN.
Others have said they’ve used the first free vpn listed in their App Store and it has worked flawlessly.
Try a few, some of the paid ones have free trials.
What comes to my mind is that your port forwarding in home router (that your PS5 is connected to) is configured wrongly and works up to a certain point. PS5 uses multiple ports (~5 if I’m not mistaken), so please check that out. It does not use them all the time - in my case I was able to turn the console on, but not connect to it.
Another thing is the hotspot. If I’m not wrong your mobile hotspot uses NAT, just like home routers do. Not sure if it requires forwarding, too (if your PS5 tries to connect to your app’s port directly, without getting the request first). I’d rather try making it work on your phone, using mobile data and no hotspot at all and then try further to eliminate variables.
Again, I’m not an expert and remote play was not created for accessing your console fully remotely and due to it being propertiary software I don’t know how it works. Change one thing at once
Alright I’ll give it a shot, what’re some of the basic steps in setting up a vpn?
I’d never used one before this and afair it was just download the app and turn it on.
