Why is WoW latency so high without VPN

I was having issues with WoW on an OC server. My latency was at 4k ping . I have fast net with 1gb download speeds. Tried heaps of things to get it working but no luck.

I tried a VPN and now my latency is back at 30.

Does this mean my Internet provider is throttling my access to WoW servers? (all other games are fine including diablo 4)

Probably a bad hop. You can run a trace route (while disconnected from the vpn) to see.

Likely a damaged node or a ddos attack across the usual pathways that your vpn doesn’t use

How would I check this? The server has maintenance today so this may fix it?

  1. Find the IP address of your server. You can probably find it through a google search.
  2. Open the command prompt on your computer. Type tracert then the IP address. eg: tracert 127.0.0.1

The output should be kinda like a ping, but it’ll show all of the different stops the connection makes along the way. If it’s a bad node, you’ll see one hop will take way longer than the others

Check this, the IP’s needed are listed there as well.
