Last week, Google announced its own VPN service. Trusting Google’s VPN would be like trusting a VPN from the NSA. Here’s why giving Google direct access to all your online activity is a terrible idea: https://protonvpn.com/blog/google-vpn/
Look on the bright side. It might do a good job of blocking Facebook from tracking you.
Now google has 100% access of your data.
google VPN…I think 50% of the reason I have a VPN is to prevent google seeing anything.
It’s such a perfect definition of oxymoronic: Google + Virtual Private Network.
I would rather keep my Bluetooth and GPS always turned on rather than using google vpn
using google vpn is like using a password storage app created by the CCP
Google is so full of spyware, that in my thoughts a spyware company need to claim it spyware, until them and other clean it up.
Where can I find Google’s vpn asking for a friend.
The very purpose of VPNs is not solely to prevent companies like Google from tracking you. One of the true original purposes of VPNs is creating a secure tunnel from your device to whomever you are accessing without fear of malicious actions being carried out against your data.
Now a days, free VPNs are a must for anyone connecting to public WiFi. Obviously ProtonVPN has a free tier but if more people are aware of Google VPN and use it (and it’ll probably be faster and less restrictive then other free VPN tiers) that’s a huge plus for data security as a whole.
To be honest, all this grandstanding on false pretenses from Proton is leaving a bad taste in mouth. Both this and throwing their hat in the ring with Epic going against Apple is not something I agree with. I would actually prefer my mail and VPN provider to just stay quiet and not draw attention to itself.
The best place to hide is in plain sight.
The primary purpose is to secure your traffic on the network you’re connected to. Like public WiFi.
Google VPN will do that just fine and is a lot more trustworthy in that regard that a lot of other VPN providers.
Using Google VPN is like staying celibate in a whorehouse.
I only use VPN for Netflix. So if google gives me the UK for free, ill take it.
Isnt the name google and the noun VPN, an oxymoron of sorts?
The article actually makes a very good point.
And you get to pay them for it
Better the CCP then the NSA. China can’t do shit to me from here, the NSA though…
Google just wanted to show you ads the make money though. /s
You are not wrong. However, tunneling all your data through one of the biggest data aggregators on the planet is something to be skeptical of, if you value even an ounce of your privacy.
Unless you ise Tor, you always have a party that can monitor, being your ISP or a VPN provider, but to make Google your private overseeer is a bit much.
