Wireguard protol connection issues

Edit: Excuse the title. I meant “Protocol”

Mac Mini m1 2020

These are some issues that are noticeable after the upgrade to the new Sequoia OS for macs. This could mainly be a problem that Apple needs to address with an update fix, but I thought I would mention it here as well since it is a problem in Surfshark.

List of current issues.
-Surfshark VPN has connection issues when using Wireguard protocol: The Chrome browser does not detect an internet connection whereas Safari does connect. (It also takes a very long time to connect when set to Wireguard protocol).

-Downloader apps also do not detect an internet connection and do not respond to wireguard protocol.

-IKEV2 is the only protocol that seems to have less issues but the connection is still not smooth and very choppy.

  • The surfshark extension for Chrome seems to be able to connect to a different location and Ip address than my surf shark desktop app. My desktop app is connected to Latham where as the surfshark chrome extension has me connected to new york with a different IP address. I’m not sure if this has always the case though. Edit: I do not use the chrome extension regularly but was testing it through trial and error and Wireguard does not work with or without it).

I’m not sure if this could also be a surfshark update issue but I thought I would address it here just in case.

I also addressed the issue in more detail here: Original Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/1fihlge/comment/loh1mxu/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Hi, I would to like to clarify that the location you’re connected to on our Chrome extension doesn’t depend on the location you’re connected to on the desktop app. You can connect to different locations, however, we also recommend not using our browser extensions and desktop app on the same device at the same time. In fact, this might be causing the issues you mentioned.

I recommend turning off the browser extension and then trying to connect with the desktop app to see if the problems persist. If so, please contact our support team at [email protected] to investigate since Sequoia is still a relatively new version of macOS.

Yes I never used the chrome extension. I have always been comfortable with the desktop app.

But ever since I have had connection issues after the Sequoia mac update I tried the chrome extension and discovered no difference.

Chrome still does not work when connected to Wireguard protocol but only works when I am connected through Ikev2.

I was just testing things through trial and error and made the discovery of being able to connect to a different location through the chrome extension. But I don’t ever use it since it is through a browser and I am more comfortable using the desktop app.

But yes I still have connection issues while using the wireguard protocol with or without the chrome extension.

Thanks for the update! In that case, our support team would be interested in investigating your specific case.
