Receive my Index in China, take me lots of efforts to bring this baby home

I’m bringing an Index back from US to Japan… worried about RMA as well but hope it all goes well.

I guess if RMA is just one piece of hardware (i.e. Left Controller), it’s not so expensive to send back to the US. The whole box expensive though.

No issue at all except for those thumbstick not clicking in all directions but that doesn’t bother me at all. Used to spend my whole time on my quest and now it’s sitting on a shelf cause with the index there is no way back.

Was afraid at first to proceed my order but I just did it, I end up buying the quest cause of the disappointment of valve shipping policy for the launch but so worth the move tbh.

For info to order to Singapore this is what I did:

-create a steam account with VPN in us

-create a vpost account

-input your us vpost warehouse address in steam

-input your us vpost address in your bank account

-proceed the payment

-recover your Singapore adress in your bank account cause the bank will whine for us tax

-i paid only 200sgd for customs and shipping in standard don’t forget to declare the real value don’t be silly to save 50 sgd

-wait a couple of weeks and enjoy

You speak Chinese?

I’m a foreigner in China, currently using Pimax and Vive.
Need to get Index, How did you get one?

Also I’m been looking for players to play VR with(like Pavlov). Can you recommend a title or a group?

Thanks

Chinese maps almost word to word with English, I had to cheat for the last sentence though

Ya, I was thinking the same as well.

Sorry I wanted to practice my Chinese. The translation by u/numpad0 is close enough.

Was asking if OP knew any good VR groups in China as it’s hard to find Chinese players in VR games, most VR multiplayer games don’t even have Asia servers or they are totally dead. Then I become that ‘high ping asshole’ that plays on European and US servers.

OP had to use a reshipping service to get his Index shipped from the US to China which cost over $100 US dollars in reshipping fees although it’s possible to do it cheaper at about $60.

玩家社区比较大就是HTCVIVE吧了(嗯,index的海淘教程就是我发到HTCVIVE吧和SteamCN)

Awesome man! I’m also in China and wanting to buy an HMD. Was thinking of getting the Rift S.

How is the Index performing here in China? Any issues?

Can you test it out before you travel? Should at least help.

How are you bringing it back? Considering this too in Singapore!

Oh nice, so vpost only charged 200 or so uh? That’s awesome! I was worried about the complaints of them repacking stuff for you and breaking stuff. But DHL and fedex we’re charging something like 450-550 USD to ship the box, I was like. Unmmm no thanks. Hahah. Have you tried the rift or vive before? How does it compare?

Sad to hear that the thumbstick issue still hasn’t been fixed by valve though.

运费800,不过我买的贵了,淘宝上四方之类的400能下来。

关税是售价的13%,而且就index的体积也是不能避税的…

Pretty good, controller and headset is amazing. But you have to be lucky enough to avoid problems. Otherwise if the device break down, it will be extremely difficult and costly to repair or perform RMA.

Yeah my bro will test it before I come pick it up… In the next day or so. Hopefully if an RMA is needed, we can get it back within 2-3 weeks.

Box is too big for carry-on unless you get lucky and they don’t check, so I’m breaking it down and putting the hardware into a backpack. If you search on Amazon or some eCommerce store, you can find carry-on approved bags.

Then I’m buying bubble wrap to wrap it in and take onto the plane.

I tried the rift in sandbox and you can’t compare. Controllers sound, fov, sharpness. Much more immersive. This weekend I will open my controllers to with the ball pen bearing fix which seems the best fix to do so far not really worried about the process it s just to make that thumbstick pole longer

不过恭喜啦 index还是很nice的。我已入手一个半月,就是游戏太少

不介意的话给我个你的微信号,可以加下你好友,有时间一起打打Arizona sunshine之类的

Yes, that is what I’m worried about with any HMD that is worth it in the market. I did notice that the Index and Rift S and other HMD’s are on Taobao.

It might be okay to replace a controller from Taobao or a lighthouse, not sure I’d want to have to order a headset from there though. Let’s hope the HMD we buy don’t have any problems at all!

Oh, how is SteamVR? Any lag issues?

Hahahaha I send laptops to china for our staff. They get stopped in customs, no CCC certificate. Because even though they are made in China, they were not made FOR China, so they are not certified safe and compliant with Chinese standards. Smh… :man_facepalming:

So I send them to Hong Kong and have a courier carry them over the border then courier to the staff. Such a difficult process!

For reference I’m on East Coast (US) and it took me about 2 weeks to RMA the controllers.
