US based - now that GCN is gone what are my options? Can I access another platform via a VPN? I’d like to watch the upcoming Christmas CX races.

About 80% of the reason I have a VPN is for watching CX. My strategy right now is to use the VPN to watch world cups via YouTube, and hope that replays of the other races are uploaded timely. I’m rarely up early enough to watch live, but if I am there’s always Tiz.

Fingers crossed that someone can figure out a Eurosport hack because I’m hoping I never have to rely on Max/Flo.

Tiz cycling. Even has VOD which Max with b/r doesn’t.

Here’s what I did - with an Android device (Pixel tablet in my case) use a .apk repo like Aptoide to side-load a non-geo-locked version of the Discovery+ app*, then use VPN to UK to create the account and subscribe using playstore credits (rather than credit card). Once done, you can VPN on a computer to access your account.

I tried side-loading the app on my Chromecast with Google TV, and I got it open, but since it’s not a Google TV app, the remote doesn’t really work, so no way to actually navigate to the races/replays lol. Guess I’m back to the old days of firing up the laptop and connecting an HDMI cable if I want to watch on a big screen. I really, really loved having the GCN app on Google TV.

*at your own risk

We’ve got two threads over on r/cyclocross listing your options.

Flobikes has picked up the rest of the cyclocross season. If you don’t like them, you can also watch the World Cups on the UCI YouTube channel (set your VPN to a country where no one has the broadcast rights like Mexico), or watch races in another language on free-to-air broadcasts like Sporza or l’Equipe.

Maybe check back this weekend to see if anyone managed to get Eurosport working with a VPN? As I understand it, it’s not possible to pay for a subscription from the US without having a European payment method.

Then for the road cycling season from 29 Feb onwards, in the US live cycling moves to a Discovery channel called Max.

I’m interested to see what, ahem, other options are available but right now your best legal option is Flobikes. I’ve heard it’s pretty bad, but it might be worth it to you to pay $30 for the next month or two and then decide if you want to go with Max or see what other options pop up.

Tiz. Was very willing to give my money to GCN but not fucking Floshit or Discovery but not anymore.

YouTube

As I have been watching CX World Cups on YouTube (I am in Australia), my recommended feed has full recent CX races thanks to various pirates of YouTube. They upload the races very quickly, think I may of seen a live stream.

Want to see a recent race, search the race name, so you will get the traditional highlights packages plus 2 or 3 options for the full race to watch at your pleasure.

WBD announced GCN+ content will be hosted on Max app in the U.S. as an add-on service called B/R Sports beginning February. B/R Sports costs $9.95/mo, which is on top of a Max sub ($15.99/mo, ad-free).

Buy an Android Box & find an IPTV provider. I did this 3 years ago & never looked back.

I did the same and this worked for me. Also, what a hassle.

Tried this using Google play credits but it says “item unavailable in your country” I am using a VPN in the UK and and the APK as you suggested. Any thoughts?

It’s been a few years since I signed up for Eurosport, but I was able to use a US credit card as payment.

The trick was to disconnect the VPN just for the portion where you enter the CC details, then reconnect.
At the time there was a check that your location matched the location of the CC when validating/charging it, not a check that you’re in Europe.

Not sure if this has changed. Once I was signed up it’s been on autopay and I’ve had zero issues.

It’s probably possible to buy a European currency prepaid Mastercard/visa and subscribe to Eurosport that way, but I’m not sure how shady it’ll be getting that going. I’m going to try when the road season starts.

Flobikes doesn’t cancel you. They won’t let you go. So, good luck trying that method. Expect to pony up for the year before you escape.

re: flobikes- after they lost two lawsuits for shady business and billing practices I’ll never even think about giving those scumbags a dime.

Sorry, I’m realizing this doesn’t help you for Xmas CX races!

After digging around online it seems that B/R Sports is stream only, with no on-demand programming for live events. So until they roll out an on-demand option, you have to watch cycling events live when they air.

Yep! Just click the discipline
Almost better quality than when I watched them from Gcn :joy:

Not sure if I got lucky somehow…I did see there were two apks in Aptoide. The one that has 91k downloads is the one I got. The other one, with only 20k downloads appears to be for Indian content, based on the description. Just one more thing to check maybe?
