TL:DR; Get a good quality VPN, or the big N is going to send the “mean people.”
So uh, pretty sure I got what I deserved for not using a VPN . Got a few DMCA notices of things I downloaded, which my ISP didn’t say by name but I know what they are lmao. My ISP wasn’t watching torrents before, I guess they are now. I say that because my ISP never gave a cahoot of me doing “Yahharr ” stuff over a decade. This might have to do also with another bigger ISP buying mine out a few years back though. Or two new torrents I downloaded are being tracked by the Big N. Could be both, but I digress.
Feel free to downvote my post. I know I’m a complete dumbass. I just find it funny they give a cahoot just now, My ship might sink, it was nice knowing y’all.
You should seriously consider using a torrent downloader service or a seedbox. Personally, I have started using a debrid service. They have the option to download torrent or magnet links, upload them to a file downloading site (like Uptobox), and then generate premium links from there to use. Depending on the service, it will also serve links that have already been retrieved by others, so you don’t have to wait for the debrid service to download the file from the torrent first. You can also easily max out your connection. It is mind-blowing how well these services work, and you technically don’t have to run a VPN (serves private direct links). You can run a VPN with most debrid services if you absolutely insist, but check the service’s FAQ for instructions.
ISP’s don’t give a shit if you torrent. They only send out notices if a company tells them to. If you just download you should be fine, but your IP was probably uploading the game as well. I use a private torrent service and have never had a problem. You should force encryption so they can’t see what you’re downloading/uploading, that will help too.
Interestingly, it’s not your ISP watching your torrents, it’s people (or bots) hired by N or whatever big company, watching the individual torrents and reporting IPs that connect, directly to your ISP. The ISP is required to warn you, afterwards.
I just use seedbox.io to download torrents and then transfer them over to my computer with Filezilla. So far no issues and it’s fairly cheap. About $7 a month and you can download basically as much as you want in that month
Use HTTPS private torrent trackers. No one going to track of your torrent trackers is private. They can’t track the data since its end to end encrypted… They are tracking you by tracking the torrent which has public IP info.
VPN is not needed for this. Especially if in your country downloading is legal.
I use PureVPN here. It’s dirt cheap, and I’ve used it for over 5 years with no issues. Only caveat is the US servers are slow as shit. Use the European or eastern servers for 50-100 Mbps speeds.
